The landlord has to give her at least 15 days when they are evicting someone for personal use (like they/family are moving back into the house). Otherwise they have to give 30 days notice. She should sue him for all expenses incurred in the move.

Lightworker, as a christian I'm sadden that you and your friend got no response from local churches. I think that today many churches "offically" help only their members or those that attend that church. Have you been in a church business meeting lately?? Very eye opening!! You would have probably faired better contacting a church member or church leader you know personally. The person in the office had to follow church policy. I'm retired and try to help people in my community all I can (driving them to doctors, mowing yards, cooking etc) haven't moved anyone but certainly would.
WTF? It's been a while since I attended church, and while I am not shocked at this incident, I am somewhat surprised. I thought Christians were supposed to reach out to help those in need. I cannot believe (well, I can) that they would actually draw lines around their congregation. What a crock of crap. For a long time, I thought the churches were a good at creating a sense of community, as they prayed for the sick, brought food to the hungry, and shared tears of sorrow. If they draw the line around the church when it comes to helping people in need, shame on them all. I have no problem when having limited means, and having two people who need help, chosing the one closest to me. One person can do only so much. However, if my means are not limited, I would reach out to help everyone I can in a heart beat. Sounds like some people need to revisit the teachings of Jesus.

Apparently you didn't read the condition of the lady having to move. It sounds like it would be unlikely that she is fit to represent herself in court, and too poor to hire a lawyer to seek trivial monetary damages. I think the message isn't so much about the landlord/tenant laws as it is a message that it doesn't take a Christian to be giving like Jesus. Before Jesus, there were no Christians. Think about that for a while.

Yes I read about the ladies condition and how the so-called christian groups would not help. I think that it is great that freecycle came to the rescue. But I also think she should look into the landlord/tenet laws because this isnt any more "right" than the lack of compassion shown by the groups listed there.

As a Christian, this makes my heart hurt. Sounds like the people that got called were not listening to what Jesus taught.

They need to go back and read parables such as the Good Samaratin, etc. Then get on their knees, no flat on their faces, and beg forgiveness.

How can you stand up and tell people about salvation and forgiveness and repentance from sin, when you won't reach out to help the peple that are in your face?

Shame on us!!!:bang:

Don't fret too much. I see this behavior more times than I'd ever imagine. People shunning their own families in the name of doing work for their churches. Shameful. :sosad:

Thanks, MK. Being frequent doesn't make it right.

I think it goes back to things that were talked about on the Worry thread: Self centeredness.

all we can do is lead by example,...............................but wait!!!

didn't Jesus do that a couple of thousand years ago?

I'm paraphrasing some wise person, ... Don't seek to follow in the footsteps of the great worldly leaders, seek what they sought.

A few years ago a couple with a little baby came into my shop at the time. Their car had broken down in Panama City and they had spent every dime on repairs. While their car was being worked on they started looking for help. All they needed was enough money to make it back to Tennessee. No one would help them so they drove down 30A . At the time I was not in great financial shape but I told them I would give them some and ask around for more .When I looked in my money box I found a $20 that I did not remember. I gave the money to this couple and the look on their faces will be etched in my mind forever.
