PANAMA CITY - Handshakes and country music signified a Republican event in Panama City on Saturday.

The Grand Old Party held a grand opening of the Bay County Victory Office at 1607 Lisenby Ave. The event came just days after news that John McCain, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, will be coming to Panama City on Friday afternoon. The Lisenby Avenue headquarters is full of literature on Republican issues, such as the FairTax (a plan calling for a national sales tax but no income or payroll taxes), pictures of President George W. Bush and campaign signs. One poster says that you can't spell White House without "W."

The building will be the nerve center of Republican phone, mail and door-to-door operations for the rest of the election season, GOP officials said, which already has seen TV advertisements in the Panama City market.

One issue already has Democrats on the attack.Tickets to the McCain event were scheduled to go on sale this week, but Ted Haney, chairman of the Bay County Republican Executive Committee, said the event is now free. Those interested still will have to get tickets either from the organization's Web site or at the Republican headquarters.

Is McCain proponent of the Fair Tax?

I saw this article in the "paper" this morning. It seemed kind of a little misleading.

To my knowledge, he is not a proponent of the Fair Tax.

I wonder if they were having trouble getting people to pay to listen to McCain, hence the now free concert and talk.
