Yes, the madness can stop, but we have to be very careful when politicians with bank accounts most of us can only dream of propose government driven 'fixes'. For example, John Edward's plan mandates, and I do mean requires you to go to the doctor's office. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070902/ap_on_el_pr/edwards_2

Is that really what we want? Rapunzel is more of an authority on the policy and politics of healthcare than I am;I will have her weigh in, if I can tear her away from the hammock and book!

HAIL, no! I want a leader, not a dictator. That skeers me pretty bad...

Don't you dare ruin her pleasant day with health care! It will still be screwed up on the next rainy day; she can chime in then! :nono1:

You know, the idea about fee for service medicine will really catch on, I think. It amazes me that the concept of paying $100 for a physical exam and a set of labs is so foreign. People routinely go to the vets office and do not hesitate to plunk down $200 on an exam and bloodwork for the dog, but will get really uncomfortable if they don't have a card in their wallet that says they are insured for their own office visits and need pay only $15 for a visit. Of course, they are paying much more than $15 for that visit, but there is some psychological glitch in our brains regarding insurance and the import of 'being covered'. I refuse to buy dental insurance;going to the dentist is a great investment, and is cheap for the care you get. Bring insurance into the picture and costs (as well as headaches) will go up.

My appendectomy would have cost me $15,000 if I had no insurance, and I take medicine for narcolepsy which would cost me $275/month. (Don't get me started on drug companies AND insurance!)

While I would not have been able to pay for the appendectomy without insurance, I wonder what it would have cost if insurance companies weren't such a factor? They've got us where they want us.

 ...when is this election?

Not soon enough, and it will drag on forever.

I think we basically live in a full blown election time - every week, month, year. There is no more time off.:bang:

What is wrong with you people? Freedom and the power to vote is what makes us Americans! Are you just going to sit around and not have a voice?

I meant insurance for office visits. At this point, even if one was to pay cash for ambulatory purposes, they would be insane not to carry insurance for inpatient care. Again, I am not sure how all the insurance stuff works, but I bet that left to market forces, your meds would be more affordable. I could be wrong, it is just a guess.

:D I likey. Seriously though, I almost NEVER read these politrick threads, and yes, I will end up voting. I try to do my homework and be informed, but to me, it's all very confusing. And then, there's the added distraction of mr. dd "advising" me. :bang:

Basically, expanding SCHIP as Hillary desires guarantees hundreds of thousands, if not millions will depend on the government to secure health insurance for them.
...all the while the politicians "friends" get the gov't contracts to provide the services and medicines.

You see, Hillary wasn't against the war in Iraq. She was just upset that the Democrats' friends were raking in the dough from all of the contracts. That is the way politricks work. Wake up and smell the beans, people!

Just wait 'til the taxpayers get that bill of Union doctors and nurses checking out $300 million citizens and another million or two illegal aliens going to the doctor for check ups. :yikes:
