I need some ideas for some good lo-fat snacks. I've already lost some weight but I need new snack ideas. Don't want anymore carrots, celery sticks, fruit in a can, etc.

I snack on pretsils and chex mix. BUT what I have found best is just avoid food. When I'm away from the house or the office I never snack. I know, easier said than done.

You're right. I work from home, and I just want to snack sometimes.
Thanks. I will try the pretzels.

What about nuts? Like, almonds? Or cashews?

Well, those are actually very good for you, the ones w/o oil, etc. But I would probably eat a couple of huge handfuls.

whole fruit like Fuji Apples and bananas are two of my favs, and if I am really hungry, I make a fruit Smoothie, adding yogurt and Cranberry juice to a bunch of fresh and frozen fruit. Blend 'til smooth, hence the name. ;-) Nuts are always a quick fix too.

Another good idea. Stay away from anything with sugar in it.

Shut up. Yes. J101! He hated me!

I didn't pass an AP Style test...I got an 82.4 and he wouldn't round it up. He said he would have if I had gone to the study session the Sunday before.

He is such a weird one. You do know his first name (on the birth certificate) is King, right? King Edward Williams

My good friend did an internship with GMA up here in NY and he didn't count it so she couldn't graduate. He's such a freak.

Hey JR...Pick up a copy of Quick and Simple magazine. They have a whole thing about snacking.

I think I can help you out here. I've lost 60 lbs. now and I don't starve myself. One of my favorite snacks is hummus with sesame flatbread (I found this brand at Jewel and Dominick's called "Ak-mak" - 100% whole wheat stone ground sesame crackers. They are usually by the Ry-krisp and melba toast. 5 good sized crackers have 116 calories and 3.5 grams of fiber and they are really good.) The store bought hummus is ok - probably better to make your own or go to Pita Inn in Wheeling (just south of Dundee on Elmhurst Rd. Probably not too far for you.) If you like Middle Eastern food, I highly recommend it - not fancy but really good and not expensive at all!

I also like black bean salsa with baked tortilla chips. Here's my salsa recipe:

1 can of Red Gold petite diced tomatoes with green chiles
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 can white corn, drained
Lime juice, fresh minced garlic, cilantro and chopped onions to your liking
You can also add 1 or 2 chopped avocados, but this adds fat (though it's good fat.) Doesn't keep as long this way, either. But it's a really nice addition.

Nuts and pretzels are good, too, but put your portion in a bowl and don't eat right out of the package - too easy to overindulge. My hubby is a great one for getting a bag of chips and before he knows it, he's eaten half the bag.

Hope this helps!

sugar free jello
yogurt with a little cereal or a few sliced almonds
fresh fruit salad
a few whole wheat crackers
hummus on your veggies or crackers
low fat cheese
a piece of turkey rolled up with cheese, or with chopped lettuce & tomato
a glass of milk
left overs
those egg muffins from the South Beach diet (eggs/veggies) - prepare ahead of time and keep in the fridge for a snack.

3 cheese doritoes (right!)
