I remember my mother having me take her to the store once a month. She never drove. She'd buy over $300. worth of stuff even way back then and she lived in an upstairs apartment! She was a helluva cook though, so I always got a reward. :D

I go a few times a week. The thang is that I now go to three stores, sometimes four. Whole Foods, Kroger, Publix and Fresh Market. Then, the local farmers market, too.

Once every two weeks for my serious shopping and some small stuff throughout the week. I love Fresh Market Lynnie! Once I did all of my shopping there, but it cost so much I had to stop. Now its only for special items like Drunken Goat cheese and that amazing sparkling french lemonade...

A few times a week usually after work. There are several stores on the way and it's convenient to slip in and get stuff I need as I need it. I don't mind it at all. It's so convenient that I don't feel pressure to make a list and check it twice and all that. If I forget something today, I'll get it tomorrow.

  • we have a fairly new Fresh Market its on the other side of town like 35 miles one way. I go ever once in a while if I'm on that side of town.
  • So , tell me what is good there. I've gotten some good bakery items so far.

Just went. I usually go once a week, maybe twice. I try to plan for what I think I will need. Winn Dixe in DeFuniak is starting to carry more organic fruits and veggies. I really don't like to grocery shop. You have to have a degree in chemistry to pick some of the foods anymore. I read a lot of labels, so, I take extra time if I can. No wonder America is sick, look at all that processed stuff. If I can't read or pronounce it, I am starting to leave it on the shelf. But, how can you not spend a ton of money buying as fresh and as clean as possible?:idontno: Yuck. Glad it's done.

I know. As I have found in my pursuit of less processed stuff, unless it's fruit or veggies, it's processed. I'm trying to incorporate more organic stuff too, but it may require a second job.

I try to go once a week but almost always end up stopping in once or twice week for a forgotten item.

And, yes, DD- I still mourn for shopping at Market Street in Colleyville!

Right now I am so busy that I don't have time to go to the store. This AM I had Special K with no milk because we have no milk. Also it's a PITA to decide what hubby and daughter might like to eat, go to the store to buy it, cook it, and then help with the dishes and kitchen cleanup. I just don't have time to cook with a full-time job and planning a wedding. So last week we ate all of our meals except for breakfast at fast food and take-out restaurants. Not very healthy.

Frustrating because there are two other adults in the house who could help.

Totally understand. There's just two of us and if I leave the shopping/cooking up to Mr. DD, here's what it ALWAYS is:

steak
baked potato
bagged salad...:puke:(which he NEVER remembers I hate)

Hence, I do most of the shopping and cooking. He does help load the dishwasher though.

The Watercolor Publix is my second home. I'm in there at least 4 or 5 times a week. Staff is exceptionally friendly, they have everything I ever need. It's a great place.

Save the drive, you can get it at Cocoon's Deli or Chan's in WaterColor.

I really try to go once a week, but I always end up going 2 or 3 times. Grocery shopping is my least favorite thing to do in the whole wide world. That, and planning meals.

How many of you get this?

Son: "Mom, what are you cooking for supper?
Me: "What do you want".
Son: "I don't know, or I don't care"
Me: "Give me a hint"
Son: "I don't know".
Me: "Ask your dad what he wants"
Son: "He said he didn't know"
Me: Frustrated as hell........"Okay, I will think of something"

Get home. With "________" to cook.

Son: "I didn't want __________, again".

Me: "Well, what did you want"
Son: "I don't know".

Me: "Screaming under my breath, S.O.A.B.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bang:

I tell them all the time, they better hope nothing ever happens to me, because they will freaking starve to death!!!!

:floor:Oh Darlene!! This reminds me of a scene from Two and Half Men.
Something to the effect of:

Charlie to Jake: "What do you want?"
Jake: "Whadoya got?"

I can't YouTube it cause I'm at work, but hilarious.

I guess I'm fortunate that I only have to deal with Mr. DD and he'll pretty much eat anything I cook. For the record, I hate going too though. Even when I plan, I always forget stuff and have to go back and I sure can't send him after something specific like Iceberg lettuce....:floor:He came back with shredded bagged lettuce!

I go to Publix once a week or so (unless I REALLY need something) and the farmer's market once a week. Hit Target once a month.

I usually go once a week to do a big grocery shopping, mostly meat and fish, then stop off occasionally to express line some items. Now that I have more time, I plan meals and try to make different things and enjoy cooking at a slower pace. MANgo has gotten spoiled, of late. I like grocery shopping simply because I enjoy bargain hunting. Last week, I bought london broil for $1.29 a lb, and the week before, these huge, cut by the butcher for me, porter house steaks- cost- $2.99 a lb. I hope I do not get mad cow disease.

I do not enjoy shopping when the stores are crowded or if by chance, you get cart leaners. You know who I am talking about. They use the cart as support, block the lanes, stop to look at EVERYTHING... If a snow storm is expected, people run in and buy out all the eggs, milk and bread like they will never leave the house again. That's when I hate shopping and the cussing begins.

I've actually had good luck with Target's Archer Farms product line in that regard- frequently both simple one syllable ingredient lists and reasonable prices.

OMC! This dialog sounds so familiar!:bang:

Another one is:
Me: There's nothing in the fridge, and I don't have time to go to the store and cook. We'll have to do takeout. What do you want?
Family: I dunno. Anything's okay with me.
Me: Mexican?
Daughter: JP and I had that last night in ATL.
Me: Chinese?
Daughter: (makes a face)
Me: Well, somebody decide.
...
Me: Okay, I'll get _____ [and I pick what I want as I walk out the door with my car keys]
