Actually, it's a small part of NPR's budget:

  • 31% from listeners in the form of pledges, memberships, and other donations
  • 20% from businesses via corporate underwriting
  • 11% from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), which is federally funded*
  • 10% from licensee support
  • 9% from foundations and major gifts
  • 5% from local and state governments, and
  • 14% from all other sources.
People do "vote" for this programming, via the 31% and 20% which comes from individuals or businesses which consider having their name associated with NPR to be a good souce of advertising.

But, what I really want to know is, what do you think of Max Cleland? I thought it was a crime the way the GOP machine went after him in his last (losing) campaign. Ann Coulter LIED about his war record, his opponent embarrassed his fellow Republicans (who called on him to STOP the negative campaign, and he refused).

Honestly, the man is in a wheelchair because of what happened to him in Vietnam, and the opposition made him out to be less of a patriot than Saxby Chambliss, who had FIVE student deferments during Vietnam, and finally got a medical deferment because of a FOOTBALL injury.

It's the one reason that if I ever see Karl Rove down on the beach, I might just walk up and sucker punch him.

your right, but tax money is still used regardless. thats just wrong. that said, ive written checks during those drives. its been a long time, but i believe it was just before 911 when i last contributed. like i said, im not talking out of my butt. ive travled both roads and ones much more educational and thats what im after. playing the political game doesnt teach anyone anything.

and dont get me started on coulter. you cant argue with her, but shes a big mouth. and no she didnt lie about his record. again, thats the effect of a irresponsible news network that spewed that. ive heard her taken out of context a million times, but they wont invite her back after they smear her. thats what mslsd prides themselves on these days.

when your running for office, the gloves come off on both sides and sometimes against eachother. just look at bush vs mccain in my home state of NH. thats politics. in the end they are one party-period.

its unfortunate you have such hatred for rove. and its no doubt driven by bias news like mslsd. driven by aggenda driven outlets and outlets that spew hate like mslsd. notice how i single them out. you would do yourself a service by actually listening to his words for more than a edited segment. theres always something to learn by listening to all voices...

my friend, youll learn more on hannitys show in a day than you will on NPR in a month. alot of liberals call into his show and learn alot i assure you. i was one of them....

ive met alot of people in life, but that doesnt make them a good person. so because you met max in person he's credible now? i guess i dont get it. sounds like star struck to me.

the left doesnt like rove because he was widely successful. and if you voted for obama, you saw many of roves tactics. the left called them unethical, but used them just the same. fact is, he knows politics and knows how to win elections.

and its ok if you watch mslsd. i monitor news for a hobby....boring i know. i do it for many reasons though, not just because i want to get all sides. but, if you want to learn something on anything and get both sides on a political issue mslsd is the last place you should go. your only doing yourself a disservice. for the first time in this countries history we have a media outlet using the most unethical tactics and bias to push an aggenda for sections of the federal government and thats proven all day long. now you wont here that on mslsd, but the rest of the industry knows this for a certainty and its there for all to see with their own eyes. and than theres the hate thats spewed daily like olby. and than you get history rewritten almost daily. in the end, the ratings tell the story and so do the audience they play too. ill stick with those who want to learn instead of play politics and ill stick with the majority. to each his own...

So you approve of the lies told to defeat Max Cleland, because everybody likes a winner, and winning is all that counts?

of course not but do you really want to go down the road of pointing out campaign lies? the president mastered that and im glad to remind you or inform you if your not aware of it. the problem is that thats whats been driven into your mind by outlets almost on a daily basis. just look at olby and lettermen still slamming palin. shes out of office and is a private citizen now yet they still smear. they did and still do the same to rove. its all to take your eye off the ball and is driven by pure hatred.

I like NPR exactly for their low key approach and their willingness to explore an obscure topic in depth. I couldn't stand to listen to a shock jock or screecher yell at me for eight hours a day.

i couldnt listen to a shock jock either and i dont. low key approach? you got that right

Are you a southern woman? I note that you did not respond to my "bless your heart" and must then assume you are not aware while that phrase can be used as an expression of warmth. It is much more likely to be used as the ultimate insult and used to avoid ugly speech, much like to avoid getting your gloves dirty. And at bottom line, I truly don't consider your opinion regarding NPR of any value in my life. I listen to it, constantly since I am home bound, learn from it and enjoy the coverage. I am so glad you have the talk show media covered for those of us that prefer to get our news elsewhere. Please refer to my prior posts re health care reform and the Max Cleland book. What coverage have you found on the talk shows on these issues? On health care reform what do they say about those individuals in my situation? What have they had to say about Max Clelands's book? If you are getting in-depth coverage, perhaps we could converse on these isssues

not a southern woman, no. thats a first for me though. mam, ive learned so much about health reform its not funny. trust me on this one, expand your mind for just one week. and im not saying i dont listen NPR at all anymore, its just very limited mainly for music these days. there is no comparison on health coverage, absolutely no comparison. just looking out for you thats all i promise. its all about the educational value of it all, not party line worship.

Can we just talk about Max Cleland?

I think you're infatuated with Keith Olbermann. I myself only watch him on ESPN.

Little man-crush, maybe?

You are a sick puppy. If you believe these outlets you hate so much are so dishonest and deceiving please provide examples of this behavior. Come on let's hear it, present the facts to back up your paranoia. List the unethical biased agendas they are pushing, not your own warped sense of things but the facts, as in proof, you do what facts are don't you? Come on Mr. "I was a liberal" show us your secret files on the evils of liberalism. Reveal them and save the planet from the darkness from which you have emerged. Either put up or STFU.

thats funny :funn:. man crush, god no!!!! i just cant believe what he does and what comes out of his mouth. i mean, he actually lies to his audience about his viewer ratings when its all there for the public to see. i still click on him sometimes but its only because of curiosity. one can truly see where alot of so-called liberals get there mindset. if they only knew. its not liberalism, its political hate driven by an aggenda. thats not news in the least, not even close. and than you got maddow who tilts american history to push an obama aggenda. things that we learned in grade school for godsake. i just cant understand why some havent seen this yet. most have hense the ratings, but many have yet too.

I pose, again, my original question. What is your position concerning 62 yo woman disable by MS after working from the age 17. I am also a cancer survivior and just fininshed chem due to begin radiation today. My BC/BS, coverage I have had since my teenage years of late decided retroactivley that they would no longer pay any claims unless and until Medicare was billed first. Medicare has thus far failed to pay any claims. My surgeon who performed my masectomy has submitted bills repeatedly but Medicare has paid nothing. I expect at some point the bills will be sent directly to me for payment. What, pray tell, have I been paying premiums for . I have delayed calculating the amount of money I have paid BC over the years only to find that there is nothing there. Someday, I would be happy to tell you the story of my interactions with the BC patient care coordinator. It is tragically hysterical. I am sure many feel that getting sick is something I brought on myself. But what about the family whose child is injured by a drunk driver. Their insurace will be cancelled, depending on the severity of the injuries. Or what about my niece whose lawyer husband had excellent insurance that was instantly terminated when she experienced a complicateed delivery during which the child, while surviving, was oxygen deprived for an extended time and now is totally incapacitated. Their insurance was terminated before the baby made it to neonatal ICU. What do you think? what do you think will happend to your and your families' medical insurance, when you need it?
