Hey, what's happening in SoWal on MLK weekend? We're thinking about driving down. In our town the MLK holiday is the white folks' vacation getaway (as in anyone with an ounce of money goes snow skiing). How ironic is that? I refuse to pay to be cold, so we typically beach it on MLK weekend.

just how I feel...I am sure I'll catch some flak from this one.....
you Alli .....however, neither conservatives or liberals can be put in those boxes. One of the boxes is completely negative and one is completly positive. Individuals are individual. I am an enlightened, tolerant conservative, definitely interested in change. At the same time, one can be conservative in one area but not another. Politics sucks when you are suppose to choose a side and get in their box.

Thanks for that SM. I think many politicians would like to consistantly point out our differences, while in so many things, we are all very much alike. IMO it would benifit us all graytly to identify the things that make us alike and bring us together, and quit bickering about the things that are different. I'm not saying that everyone should "be" alike, just respect the differences and find more solutions.

wow, the first post really set the tone for this thread, trainwreck from the start. it's a bummer that MLK day has devolved into a non holiday. the banks and post office(not sure about schools or business, i'm no longer a suit) take the day off, but the rest of the nation gets to work. unless, you're near the ATL and get to go skiing or to the beach.
on a typical holiday weekend, construction stops at 1-2pm on friday and will resume on tuesday after the observed holiday. i had scheduled as much and asked the contractor when the job would be open on tuesday. he indicated that on monday the job would be open. no plastering of the jobsites by st. joe code enforcement regarding hammers down, interesting. i seem to work one of my jobs every holiday, so it barely matters to me.
what does matter to me is someone would use the term 'white folks' in a thread labled with MLK. how in this day and age can people think that is ok? the county as a whole has yet to move past segregation, and it is quite sad.
this thread shows that there are still faces of the dirty south that are still pretty dirty. you'd think we'd want to move past the stereotypical image the rest of the nation has of us, not fuel it.

Seriously, I know of nothing in Walton County Code of Ordinances regarding firearms. Perhaps there is a state law on it regarding distance from residential property one must be to fire a gun. You can search through myflorida.gov to see. You might also try the FWC (FL Wildlife Commission) for more info.) know that you can hunt in some of the State Forest around here. You might want to also check with the WalCo Sheriff's office because they will be the ones coming after you if you are violating any rules.

Between Skunkape and 30-Gay I am laughing my rear end off. Well done, guys.
I dunno, in Denver there was always a MLK march and being a good Volvo-driving liberal I did the march with my kids a few times when they were younger just to make sure it would really sink in why they had the day off. But I know their schools did a lot of MLK stuff the week before.
I did the march with a friend just to remind myself, as well.
The speeches were sometimes awesome.
On another messageboard I go to, they were talking about how meaningless MLK Day is. I think stuff has about as much meaning as you give it.
I'll take MLK Day over Columbus Day, that's for sure.
