I'm talking about the ones they have on signs in front of churches. I saw one today "The key to heaven hangs on a nail".:yikes: Anyone else want to share messages they found to be offensive and/or just plain stupid.

Since the most known symbol for Jesus is the cross upon which he was nailed, how is the sign offensive? The cross is around the necks of many Christians. It is also found in most every church, and in many cases, it is found with Jesus nailed to it, I guess to remind everyone of his horrific death. So, a sign with some words doesn't seem offensive at all.

Bobby J, that sign is just plain funny!

I like this one: "God expects spiritual fruit, not religious nuts"

I think Christianity is dumb and offensive, period. The sign serves as a reminder to me. Now do you understand?

so it isn't the sign which offends you, its Christianity? I guess you are probably often offended. By reading your first post, it seemed that the message was offensive, not Christianity.

If you think about it, their advertising worked. Their message got you talking about the churches, essentially advertising for them -- maybe that is the purpose of bill board messages.

Maybe the atheist cannot find God for the same reason a thief cannot find a policeman. ;-)

Both. I don't know why you're having such a difficult time understanding.

maybe it was your word choice, saying one thing about the message being offensive, but another statement saying that it isn't the message you find stupid, but Christianity itself. Say what you mean, and it would be easier to decipher your message. Are you sure you aren't trying to stir controversy, in order to get people to attend your church?

Christianity: The belief, that some cosmic jewish zombie, who is his own father, can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him that you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul, that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree. - makes perfect sense.

Are you that out of touch??

Belief and truth are not married.

I agree. They're just sleeping together.

The virgin birth is another lie. Throughout history the backbone of many religions for some strange reason has involved human sacrifice. Usually it's been an offering of something pure to the gods such as a virgin, presumably in order to appease them. With Christianity it happens to be virgin spawn, an oxymoron if there ever was one. These thoughts are 100% from my mind and heart. One day humanity will stop relying on superstion and fable.

Yeah, and if Christians aren't taking your money, they're walking off with your kids.

The easiest way to not be offended by a church sign is to notice that it is a building with a sign that has a church name and just simply, don't read the sign.

Or you could do as a tea party "patriot" might do, toss a brick through it and cut the gas line.

Holy Week starts this Sunday, Palm Sunday, and is celebrated through Easter Sunday, which is the highest Holy Day in the Christian calendar.

Passover begins the 30th and goes through April 6th. While Passover might not be the highest Jewish holiday, it is also a time of somber reverence and remembrance.

I respect those who choose other beliefs, but won't be tuning in to this thread next week. The ugliness and blatant disrespect simply due to ones' opposing beliefs speaks mountains. I have lived with an atheist, had a dear friend who was an atheist and work with an atheist. Never once have I heard such rude comments directed at Christianity as I have and do from you, Lucifer. Why not simply respect others' beliefs?

I started the thread with a simple enough question. I wanted to know if people ever found any of these messages offensive. From the responses I suspect that some others do as well. It only got ugly when people asked my reasons for finding this one offensive. I gave my reasons. No apologies or excuses from me on this one. Fact is I'm sure there are some devout believers a who find this sign to be offensive. What I learned from all this is that good taste is not a part of the Christian industrial complex.

Good taste isn't exactly part of certain atheists' mantra either. I didn't ask you for an apology nor do I think one is necessary. But, I do believe in respect. And, I have stated before on this forum, your belief system is respected here.

I don't find the church signs to be offensive. I do find your posts to be highly offensive though.

Unfortunately the later posts were designed to do exactly that, be offensive. The first post was just the set-up.
