"A man walks through the crowd at the Ground Zero protest and is mistaken as a Muslim. The crowd turns on him and confronts him. The man in the blue hard hat calls him a coward and tries to fight him. The tall man who I think was one of the organizers tried to get between the two men. Later I caught up with the man who's name is Kenny. He is a Union carpenter who works at Ground Zero. We discussed what a scary moment that was for him. I told him that I hoped it did not ruin his day."
I say even if he was a Muslim so what? Should Muslims not take a stroll in the vicinity of "GZ" as some (not me) like to call it? What a bunch of despicable morons!

The annoying thing with the 'oh, I can tell one by how they look' is that Muslim does not equal Arab and Arab does not equal Muslim. Something like 75% of all Arab Americans identify as Christians. (Common in metro Detroit and Toledo because Henry Ford used to recruit Arab Christians from abroad to work in his plants) And a Muslim is almost as likely to be Asian (Indonesia, Mayalsia, etc.) or African as they are to be Arabs.
And that's even before getting into the Iranians, who are not happy to be called Arabs because they are Persians, and that's a world of a difference in their eyes.

Dear moronic racist mob,
Anyone whose skin is a different color than you is not out to get you. (Though I wouldn't blame them at this point.)
Also, the guy in the turban is probably a Sikh, not a Muslim terrorist.
Sincerely,
Embarrassed you represent America

Someone mentioned this on another thread - Islam is not a race. So how could these people be racists? Antiislamist maybe. But hey, we have antichristians on the board, are you equally embarrassed by them?

I know a Sikh who is racist. Against guess who? And, Sikhs pride themselves on strong army, yet gentle position toward their enemies. This guy I know is quite vocal about how horrible America is as well as always chattering about 'fighting.'
He went to Wharton and has a Big Corp. America cushy position.....has already had issues with his employer over what? His VISA! For the love of Pete! I should introduce him to sowal.com and see what entertainment might ensue.

My husband doesn't give a rip about politics or race or such. So he surprised me recently when he said that building a mosque near the 9/11 site would be as bad as placing swastikas outside of Anne Frank's home in Amsterdam.
We've visited that home. It made quite an impression on us.

You really don't see the racism? They see someone who looks a little different and they make assumptions and proceed to violate his civil rights. I'd be embarrassed by anybody who tried to make a Christian feel like they have no place in this society and initiated physical threats against them and/or disturbed his peace. This is akin to pure teabaggery at its most vile.

Ron Paul Backs "Ground Zero Mosque," Splitting with Son Rand - Political Hotsheet - CBS News
Ron Paul has made his stand on the issue and I would expect nothing less from him. He understands these wedge issues for what they are. Divide and conquer while our freedoms are destroyed from the inside out.

Are they racist when they point at me and single me out of security lines at Hartsfield? :idontno:
And, I personally don't appreciate the area being called 'Ground Zero' either. I will say that I was in a meeting last week led by a guy whose HQ was in one of the Towers and they lost 80% of their work force that day. So, you start to climb out from under that loss, shock, despair and you literally have to rebuild records.
It was powerful. We can all relate in some fashion, know someone who lost someone, etc. But, this was the first time I had experienced something to this magnitude. Literally, you could hear a pin drop. That said, I can certainly empathize with those whose feelings are still raw. Not everyone is a racist, but this is one of those issues that IS bringing out the worst in people. (Issues don't bring out the worst, however; it's how one reacts to life....yep, more accountability and it should be directed to both sides.) It's really sad and if the mosque group does move uptown a few blocks, my hat's off to them for seeing past 'principle' and holding onto the wisdom in that decision. If they decide to remain on their property, they have that right and will be supported as well as protected. I respect their decision either way.
I have only seen one other person on this board express concern for both sides.

The principle of racism, making a judgment about someone's outer appearance is elementary no matter the environment. The left likes to spin it to their benefit.

Making a judgment and threatening somebody with physical violence due to ignorance shouldn't be elementary. That's what the video portrayed. If you'd have watched it, you might know that. Oh yeah, and nice edit.

No, I just see intolerance and lack of understanding. I see a lot of that in a lot of places.

I don't know about you, but I think intolerance and lack of understanding are the defining qualities of racism. It's just as bad I think. Well, actually I think they are one and the same. I'm not trying to create pariahs, I'm saying it's just plain wrong. The more thoughtful among us have an obligation to put a stop to this.
