Walton County Sheriff's Office

It's here. March-ing in on us. Giving this month's name a whole new meaning. Maybe that's why May is law enforcement appreciation month. To reward us for what we have to endure the six weeks prior.

Spring break has sprung. Whether we like it or not. Our agency is ramping up. We've heard you - our residents. You're concerns, fears, issues, consternations, frustrations, and other adjectives that also may double as curse words.

We are heavily increasing our presence to gear up for the influx of... well.... people. All the people. The swarms of people. The waves of people. There will be a lot of them. Here's your fair warning.

Walton County Sheriff's Office staffing in Districts 3 and 4 (south of the Choctawhatchee Bay) will be increasing %110, while Districts 1 and 2 will remain at normal staffing.

We will also have bike patrols, deputies on ATVs, and our Beach/Marine Unit patrolling along our beautiful beaches during the day and night.

In the last few years, while our interaction with college-aged students has shrunk, it's been quite the upswing for our engagements with high school-aged kids.

We find that -like doomsday preppers - you like to be ready. That's why, below, you'll find a comprehensive list of spring break dates for universities and colleges, and high school districts from around the country who tend to frequent our beautiful slice of paradise.

We're here if you need us.

SPRING BREAK - BY THE NUMBERS

We're still anticipating large crowds over the next few weeks, but we wanted to update our residents on our numbers so far. These numbers reflect our efforts during Spring Break.

With this in mind, we are still conducting our law enforcement efforts across the county including traffic enforcement.

OVER THE WEEKEND:
Traffic Stops - 223
Beach Ordinance Violations - 23
Possession of Alcohol Under 21 - 43

SINCE MARCH 1ST:
Traffic Stops - 1307
Beach Ordinance Violations - 87
Possession of Alcohol Under 21 - 160

Hang in there. We are getting through this one day at a time. As always, if you see behavior warranting a sheriff deputy response, call our non-emergency line at (850)-892-8111. This includes criminal mischief and traffic violations.

We're here if you need us.

WCSO TO SUSPEND BEACH ACCESSES FROM CR 283 EAST BEGINNING AT 7 PM; SAND CLOSED TO LARGE CROWDS, UNACCOMPANIED TEENS

April Fools is canceled today. Keep your jokes to yourself because this whole Spring Break has been one already and we tired.

While today feels like March 32nd, we're in the home stretch.

However, until further notice, Walton County Sheriff’s Office plans to suspend beach access from County Road 283 S to the Bay County line beginning at 7 pm.

In anticipation of the large influx of crowds of teenagers from April 1st through April 5th, Walton County Sheriff’s Office plans to aggressively target large crowds of unaccompanied teenagers and prevent them from gathering in large groups on the sand in Santa Rosa Beach.

Anyone caught trespassing on private property to gain access to the beach will be charged accordingly. Large congregations WILL NOT be allowed on the sand.

This release is serving as a warning to those teenagers who plan to come to the beach in groups and to encourage parents visiting with their kids to NOT allow them to come to the beach alone.

“Our team is in the final stretch of Spring Break,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “It is imperative that during our busiest week – Atlanta – we prevent a situation from getting out of control. We are trying to get ahead of this now.”

This effort will not prevent families from visiting the beach but is specifically for minors without adult supervision. We appreciate the patience of our residents during this time.

No, this is NOT an April Fool's joke. As far as we are concerned, the real joke is that the start of Atlanta week is April Fools Day.

WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - Beach access is reportedly suspended in Walton County from County Road 283 S to the Bay County line.
Deputies announced on Monday the closure will start at 7 p.m. in anticipation of large crowds of teenagers from Apr. 1 to Apr. 5.
The Walton County Sheriff’s Office said they plan to mainly target unaccompanied teenagers to prevent them from gathering on the sand in Santa Rosa Beach.
Officials say anyone caught trespassing on private property to gain access will be charged accordingly.

“Our team is in the final stretch of Spring Break,” said Sheriff Michael Adkinson. “It is imperative that during our busiest week – Atlanta – we prevent a situation from getting out of control. We are trying to get ahead of this now.”
WCSO says this will not prevent families from visiting the beach but is specifically aimed at minors without adult supervision.

Seaside:

Hi Friends, it’s 6PM.

It’s time to head to dinner with your family, do a quick headcount, and come together for the evening. This is your reminder that our 8PM curfew is non-negotiable for guests 21 and under without adult supervision.

Please help us keep the peace.

Panama City Beach Police Department:

To the parents of teenagers visiting Panama City Beach for spring break, are any of these children yours? I need to make something perfectly clear. It is imperative that you contact your children immediately and inform them that unless they start treating our community with the respect they would their own homes, we will be compelled to find them a temporary home in our detention facility. If you have rented a condo in your name for them and left them unsupervised while staying elsewhere, be aware that you could be held responsible for any damages they cause.

Should you harbor any doubts about your teenager's capacity to make responsible decisions while in our city, it may be time to retrieve them.
We in Panama City Beach hold mutual respect in high regard, a standard that, regretfully, has not been met by some visiting teenagers. If your teenager arrived with the misconception that this is an opportunity for unrestrained behavior and that leniency will be extended, they are mistaken, and allowing them to come unsupervised was a misjudgment.

Special attention must be given to those teenagers frequenting the beach area adjacent to Pineapple Willy's restaurant. It is crucial they understand that the boardwalk beach access is exclusively for Laketown Wharf residents and guests. Unauthorized use of this access point will be considered trespassing. This beach has been a particular point of contention, and we will ensure a significant police presence in the area for the rest of the week. Consequently, the likelihood of unruly teenagers being arrested in this vicinity is considerably increased.

Be advised that an arrest can have long-lasting repercussions, potentially jeopardizing scholarships they've worked hard for, military enlistments they've aspired to, or any post-high school ambitions. The excuses they might offer to our officers will have little impact, especially after a month of managing spring break activities.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. It's in your hands to guide your teenagers—ensure they leave our city with good memories, not a criminal record.
