Sounds interesting, but what would motivate the top earners to take $1/no-bonus salary?

It is noted with interest that the quoted article is from the N.Y. Times. A paragon of journalistic non bias.
Social Security, Medicare??--ain't those both "Socialistic" programs that Mr. Joe the plumber was tellin' us about!:angry: Imma against it!

I suspect by then though it really wont matter if they do or not, people will be fed up with the "administration".

It was a Krugman column. You may not agree with everything he says but he surely has earned the right to say it, more than anyone who posts here or the vast majority of people in this country. (I disagree with him on some things, but on others he scarily speaks the truth.)
On that, we can agree.

They are not going to get it together at this rate--they have RNC Chair Michael Steele who needs to read the Republican Platform before her speaks, Rush Limbaugh beginning to alienate all of those left of-- right of center, Sarah Palin who cannot multitask her Presidential hopes with running a small state, nut cases like Michelle Bachman (Mn)who's hero in Joe MCCarthy, Eric Cantor, and ON and ON...
Now Newt (who is actually sensible) is looking at all this dysfunction and is trying to take control---Republicans will have to wait until 2012--maybe they can get it together by then.

The same thing that motivated the throwers of the original tea party -- changing the tax structure in America. If the top wage earners, who also pay the majority of the tax dollars in America, stopped making money (plenty of savings to live on for a year) for a year, ie- no income taxes for Uncle Sam, the Federal Gov't would have to accordingly begin taxing middle and low wage earners for the difference, or change from an income tax to a National Sales Tax. They would have much to gain, if you really think about it.
After further reflection I find it incredibly offensive that you are throwing away food when so many Americans could use it.
How about instead of lobbing the Lipton in a deserted parking lot you donate it to a pantry? Or donate 3x the amount you will waste?
