Bear in mind that the AP reports about this include the names of the victims who are willing to go on the record about these events - this isn't just hearsay or slander.

For some reason I really doubt that the deaf man who has to communicate the details of these events using his adult daughter as a translator and who lost his faith and left the church as a result is doing this for attention.

I agree. Not to mention that the NYTs article was based on official correspondence about father Murphy to the vatican.
