Obama on Abortion Funding Ban: He Wasn't Talking About House Health Bill

CNSNews.com -

I posted this in a new thread, and after it was erased I posted it under the Pelosi HC thread only for it to be erased. This information is disturbing at best and I can't understand why it shouldn't be available in the politics section. The nation only went through an enormous uproar over the Joe Wilson "you lie" comment. What's the deal SoWal Admin?

No this isn't anything personal. You start numerous posts consisting of a long diatribe that you've obtained from some other source. Often you state no thoughts of your own on the matter. The reader often has no idea what you're getting at. An article that portrays our president negatively from your perspective might possibly extol his virtues from my perspective. Again, without some perspective, your posts are pointless.

Not picking a fight LS just saying....

These posts are exactly what you’re (mtlinscomb ) being accused of. I just don’t get it. The same group jumps on anyone they feel don’t fit in the little group. But yet they claim they are doing different but are doing the something they accuse others of. Reminds me of the grade school gang wanna be kids high fiving each other after all 10 of them jump the poor kid and take his lunch money. Here Bob what have you added to the Cut and Paste on your threads?

Personally, I have learned so much about people, issues, perspectives, and myself - from the Politics forum. I appreciate every single person who has shared their knowledge and beliefs and resources, in a respectful way that contributes to a healthy discussion/debate. there are those who just cannot discuss anything rationally, and there are those who cannot appreciate or tolerate thinking other than their own. I will not let those few keep me from learning from the other wonderfully thought provoking great people who teach me much. and I mean that from my heart - I am constantly amazed and humbled from dozens of you who share so much - it takes courage in addition to kindness - while participating in a debate.

Words of True WISDOM! Thank You!

My question to you is simple. What were your thoughts on these and many other Copy and Paste articles? I fail to find them. And honestly no I have read very few of your threads, Most of them I have already encountered and since it has been my experience with your postings they have very little new content. I find that when I read someone?s comments of their own thinking I learn from them even if I do not agree with them. However to reread an article that is a simple cut and paste in most case with NO comment from the poster I pass and move on. Just saying....

trial by fire...posts 3,6,11,12 titan, no responses, good time, posts 2 and 3, carless generation post 13 what are you arguing about? on the one hand you disagree about substance. then you are unhappy with style. why not be content to either give your 2 cents or move on.

does your own medicine not taste well? i'll hold your hand and we can go over the falls together.

I don't have a problem with you, or anyone for that matter, posting stories without commentary. Every story doesn't need an opinion pinned on it IMO. We seem to cast a wide net across the media world amongst the participants here, and often there are stories you post that I haven't seen. I didn't realize that adding a comment was part of the rules of SoWal, nor did I know there was a specific way stories must be labeled when being given a title. For that I again apologize for doing so. My point is the rules should apply to everyone, and if I am guilty of this SoWal sin, your hands are equally as dirty...and we can go over the falls together, but hand in hand is going to take more than a few drinks and some sweet talking.

I have to agree--cut and paste with no initial commentary or direction to start the debate is like setting a trap. I will move on from these in the future.

At the very least, the author of the thread has the responsibility, I feel, to state up front where he or she stands on the issue in question , and then comment on the comments, etc....

This is all good.

All I can say is that I'm less likely to read copy and paste posts from anybody unless they contain some sort of summary commentary. The summary could be opinion, or it could just be something like "hey this is interesting etc". An example of what I don't like is when somebody posted an article about Obama giving a televised speech to school children. He gave no real commentary but basically rolled his eyes and said WTF? I personally had no idea of his objections, only that he had some. I had no idea until later that he viewed this as indoctrination of children. From my vantage point it was a pointless post.

There is, of course, nothing to prevent you from asking the original poster what their opinion is of whatever they've cut and pasted. If you're really interested.

It's silly to assume right off the bat that the poster is setting a trap for you. Bob, for examplle, often puts forth articles without including a comment--unless you look for how he's titled his post. Do that and you'll know exactly where he stands on the issues. Look for the clues before you start spouting off about posters neglecting their responsibility.

The four threads Beanstalk referenced have titles that are all or part of the original article title.

I find it a waste of time to read some long copy and paste article that in my personal opinion does not contain issues of any substance. If the poster had offered a synopsis up front, I could have made an informed decision as to whether the article was worth reading in the first place. With some exceptions I do not read such posts and I'm not going to waste my time asking the original poster what he was getting at. I'm talking mainly about the more opinionated partisan posts. I like to know in advance not only where the poster stands on the issue, but what is the issue????

Excuse me, but I think you did not really understand my post. I STILL maintain it is the thread author who has a basic journalistic responsibility to the fellow Sowal readers. I think to create a thread that contains no references whatsoever as to why they are even posting it, is just wrong--whomever it is...

Sorry, I am NOT searching for clues to understand exactly why someone has posted something--this is not a game--the onus is on the thread starter. I am just saying be "upfront" as the thread author, whether you are Bob, Tom, or Santa Claus. I know Sowal is made up of a lot of people with fake names, and most of whom will never meet each other in person, but be upfront and be courteous with your threads!

It directs and drives the conversation much more efficiently which I feel most readers would appreciate.
Thank you!

Personally, I'd be happy if the only politics being discussed on here were local politics. I can get my fill of national crap from national sources. That's right -- I'm in favor of eliminating discussion of national politics on SoWal.com.

Count me in with SJ.

My first reaction is that I agree completely with him. Turn on the tube or visit one of the politics forums.

Thinking a little more, though, I think dumping national politics discussions would bring more focus and activity on the local topics. SoWal provides a much-needed source of both information and discussion of local issues.

It's also a copyright violation, and will someday come back and bite Kurt in the rear. We should all refrain from doing this by restricting article posts to a small excerpt, provide a link and hopfully some interesting commentary.

1. I do not think eliminating the political forum is a good idea. Even though some of the posts are over the top on both sides of the political spectrum, most are informational and interesting. Even if I do not agree I am challenged to think and evaluate my positions. Those who are automatically on one side or the other may not get that effect but I do.
2. I do not mind "traps" or provocative posts for the same reasons. If all the posts are vanilla and non-confrontational they are also boring and non-challenging.
3. Sometimes the posts are funny and we all need all the laughs we can get.

I am a unrepentant conservative. That sometimes leads me to positions that are at odds with the party I belong to. But I love the interaction with liberals. It helps everyone if a lively debate on the issues is achieved. I only regret that due to work I cannot participate as much as others.

Agreed. It saves people a lot of time if you give them enough information to screen their reading material. We don't all want to read everything. We don't all care about everything equally either.

Though I admire SJ's posts very much, I certainly don't always agree with them. This is one of those times. It is my feeling that doing away with the national political and current events forum would be a travesty of epic perportions.
I don't agree with many of the posts in this forum and the downright lack of common sense is sometimes amazing. However, I learn as much from how people feel and react to different posts as I do from the particular post itself.
There is bound to be some rancor and derisive responses on the heated subjects that appear in this forum. To me, it makes the forum interesting and far from boring.
I, as others, am sometimes guilty of improper statements. But as I've said before, a poster can only be goaded so much before they respond in kind if they are so inclined.
I once had a flight surgeon who said to me, "Andy, we are all different breeds of cats." Those words say a lot about all who post if you take them in the proper context.
I am not, nor do I expect anyone else, going to change my thoughts or how I express them. The best I can promise is that I will be civil and courteous unless goaded.
One final thought. As has been said by others, if you don't like a thread or what a poster has to say, ignore it and move on. There is much to be learned here and purusal of the different threads belongs only to the individual doing so. No one is being made to do anything they don't wish to do.

Andy A, from my perspective, most of the political stuff I am reading is mere regurgitation of national "news," and rarely do I read a post in those forums which actually share one's personal thoughts of the real news. Mostly, people just grab hold to whatever the media claims to be news. If there were solely real people's thoughts on a topic, the politics forum would be different.

Someone commented about the cut and paste of "news." I agree that if one is going to use a source, only a snip-it should be posted here, with a link to the article. In addition to the snip-it, I think that the poster should post his or her thoughts about the article. If everyone did that, the political forum would be elevated quite a bit. Tell me what you think, not what you have been told.

Basically, regurgitation of what people call national news, is nothing interesting to me, and I can find all of those stories anywhere on the web, TV or newspapers. Give me interesting, new, or personal thoughts on stories or beliefs, and I will be the biggest supporter of an outside-SoWal political forum.
