What is this Fish ?

Beach Comber
On a lighter note ......

My children and I found this fish washed up on shore and have no clue what it is. Does anyone know?

It measured 8-10 " from its nose to the tip of its tail. I thought it was dead and screamed when it jumped.

We used to catch something that looked like that in the backwaters/inlets of the "low country" in South Carolina. We called them "croakers" . Nasty, slimy fish. We would put them in our crab traps for bait.

I would guess it's a Bighead Searobin, but I'm no marine biologist:) Where is that guy, anyway?!

Toadfish

Whatever it is , don't go near its mouth. I caught one in my crab trap and it has a mouth like a vise and put a hole in my shoe!

Thanks everyone for educating me!!

I am NOT a marine biologist or fisherman (just play them on TV) but after I saw his teeth, I used a net with a really long handle to scoop him up and put him back in the water.

(This thread is much needed light hearted banter to keep my mind off of Dennis Destruction)
