You know when gum gets stretched out- I thought she meant the speedo guys suit looked like gum stretched out like when you step in it.I was there, and I see the gum analogy as the back of the bathing suit was about as big as some Chicklets (little pieces of gum) spread out, and almost as colorful. It definitely looked like a girls suit bottoms. The strings were all that were on the sides.
