The Creator or The almighty dollar?

Do you seriously think, considering the direction this country is headed, that everyone in this country is interested in the greater good of America.
As innocent as some people see it, the removal of the representation of God in government because of the love of humanity for which He stands, is a silent cancer undetected.
Do you really think, once the principles of integrity are gone that your representation is going to make decisions in light of what is best for you and the country.
I don't think so!

Take a good look at the American Flag while you still can.
I smell the coffee, you might need some.

Common misconception:
People always say money is evil, it is not, it is simply a currency used in commerce.
The love of money in the bible is referring to a form of worship that implies one is willing to do whatever it takes to obtain that money and once obtained to exert power in whatever manner they see fit.
It is good to have enough money to be able to take care of your family and give to others-poverty is not a good thing, neither is corruption.

Enter religion, the soul, and devine intervention. People used to say the earth was flat and that it was at the center of the universe, and thunder and lightning were a sign the gods were angry at you. Over time explanations for things seen first as supernatural trend toward explanations based on scientific theory and proof.

You need to try their hot dogs, the ones that come in the plastic and are all linked together. The bratwurst is pretty good too!

Man types and bratwurst - never understood it.

I don't buy into the 'chemical computer' theories as it simplifies things far too much. Indeed our brain is made up of complex chemicals and neurons and synapses that work to process information very similar to a computer. However a computer, regardless of complexity, is a device of pure logic. It is fed data, processes it and comes out with an answer or end result. As long as the data stays the same and the program is unchanged, the answer is always the same. With humans another factor comes into play...self awareness. Negative and positive feedback systems no longer hold sway as being a contrary creature, humans can make decisions outside of the normal parameters of a situation based on abstractions and concepts and even emotions. Sure, evolution has ensured much of our makeup is based on logical constructs of survival, but somewhere along the line we became something more. Consciousness and self awareness take us beyond the realm and predictability of standard systems. Moral and ethical concepts and emotions such as love are much more than a chemical reaction, they are part of our transcendence to something greater.

Dang - nice post. :D

I think 30AShopper is a he. but I couldn't swear to it.

I really don't follow this conversation at all! sorry! I'm lost!!! no, I won't use the siggy - it is a classic though. wouldn't want to have people see it out of context - addressed to 30AShopper - it sorta looks like you were saying HE is going to hell.. but we know you were just responding to his statement about hell.

what/where is hell anyway?

Sorry, thought you might have seen 30ashoppers siggy that says the path to hell is paved with good intentions. I certainly didn't say he? is going to hell. I have no idea where hell is, but you would think people would know as much as the word is used. Study the bible if you want to find out. :D The other post should make sense now

I tend to think that awareness and consciousness might just be produced by chemicals bouncing around, but the question for me is does your awareness of things affect the way the chemicals bounce around which affects your awareness which affects your chemistry and on and on and on......?

I haven't had Hebrew National in a long time, but I believe I like these better. They've got the skins, they're very tasty, You can get pork or beef. I would bet Hebrew National are better for you, but that's not the question. I rarely buy these dogs because I tend to eat them serially in a matter of hours. They are not as thick as a lot of other brands, that might be their only drawback. I'll have to get some Hebrew national next time I'm in the store.

I find it interesting that if Jesus actually did show up in Sowal a bleach blond woman who's face had been stretched and injected into clown proportions would dial 911 on her iPhone, faint, and the "vagrant" would be arrested and escorted to the county line.

WOW what a thread this has turned out to be. Hot dogs, hell, Jesus, chemicals in the brain, Annie Laurie Gaylor (I've met her husband Dan Barker - he has such an interesting story to his "conversion".) She can be a bit pushy though. I've seen her in action too.

1st - Jesus - welcome to the forum but.... "Prove to me that you're no fool - walk across my swimming pool!":lol:

2nd - never had a Hebrew National Hot Dog

3rd - Regarding HELL. Einstein said, "I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the kind that we experience in ourselves. Neither can I nor would I want to conceive of an individual that survives his physical death; let feeble souls, from fear or absurd egoism, cherish such thoughts."

Personally, I don't see why any benevolent Creator would create HELL for his/her creation - and don't forget, one could be tossed there for a thought crime! We are talking torture for eternity! Come on, this is 2010!!

But basically I'm with Ross Perot when asked years ago about God and he said "That's too cosmic for me!" :D

Here's the rest of what Einstein said to close out my contribution to this interesting thread:

"I am satisfied with the mystery of the eternity of life and with the awareness and a glimpse of the marvelous structure of the existing world, together with the devoted striving to comprehend a portion, be it ever so tiny, of the Reason that manifests itself in nature."

Now, that calls for a walk in Nature today  We certainly have our little piece of Heaven right here don't we!

Oh SNAP - I almost forgot. The Virgin of Guadalupe turned up at MY house yesterday!! That's right. In a piece of wood that I was staining. Check it out!

Hopefully you kid. It's too cold for the pool thing. Maybe after March.

You and Al are right. And wrong.

Hope this answers your questions. Have a nice day, Gidget.

P.S. That's not the Virgin of Guadalupe on the wood you were staining. It's an octopus I saw on a recent fishing trip.
