Anybody done one. Got any advise for a couple of Otters going on their 1st cruise :idontno:

Windjammer is a barefoot sailing cruise line. Not the Carnival style cruises.

Do you work with the crew? Or just look at your barefeet?

I've known a few people that have gone. Supposed to be very nice, beautiful scenery, etc., no working, just relaxing while watching the crew work. They serve you drinks, dinner. It is sort of tight sleeping quarters, tho. But it's the gorgeous views. If you love to sail, it's the perfect gift!

From what I've heard no working. You do have to figure out how to get on the hammock while holding a rum drink in one hand and a cuban cigar in the other though

Take your fishing rod and a beer coozie with a wide bottom so it won't go rolling off the deck. You'll thank me later.

Sounds super duper....I'd need the Dramamine though. Kitty no like the boats that sway. One of my BFs lives on a 47 ft. sailboat and she is very mad at me because I am having trouble commiting to meeting them for a sail. I have run out of options...I am looking into an inner ear transplant.

Word is one is less likely to get seasick on a sailing ship because while underway it doesn't rock as much :idontno:

I used to get queasy on some of the fishing trips we would go on. I figured out the trick. If the boat leaves at 5 AM for a 12 hour trip, start drinking beer at 3 am and don't stop until your feet are back on the dock.

I personally think seasickess is 75% mental. If you sit there thinking you're gonna get sick, you're gonna get sick. If you're half drunk, you're not thinking about much at all. Catch my drift? It works like a charm.

Have you tried a patch--can be a lot better than Dramamine.

Stay outta the cabin. If you lose sight of the horizon, that's when the trouble starts. And don't hold on to the boat in rough water. Use your ankles to keep yourself steady.

I guess I should have tried that at Publix the other night.

Bonine works well too.

No..it's good?

I used the horizon trick on the catamaran in Jamaica. After dancing with the island girl, because I had to break the ice for all the gringos on the boat, the seas were so choppy and swells were so high, I just fell down on the seat!!!

Ever watch Myth Busters on Discovery? They tested several natural sea sick remedies. The only one that worked was the ginger pil. I will be buying ginger pills

Ginger is a good choice - the only morning sickness remedy that really worked for me. I never thought to take it on a cruise. I used a patch my first cruise and found that it made me really tired - and you can't get sick if you're sleeping - perhaps that's the only reason it worked. Took Dramamine my second cruise and thought it was better than the patch. I think the statement about the horizon is true - I never felt sick as long as I was up on the pool deck.

Love that show! You can usually get relief from other things that contain ginger--even eating gingersnaps or drinking ginger ale can help! Though the pills would be easier and probably contain a higher concentration, I bet.
For the record, I'm so jealous--I would love to go on a Windjammer cruise!

I have had motion sickness since I was a small child and my mother would give me ginger ale. Now living in fl and have a boat loving hubby I have tried everything. The best solution so far is I take a ginger pill the night before and in the morning before we go out on the gulf. Nothing else has ever worked for me. Should have listened to the mom years ago!

I have had several friends that have gone on Windjammer Cruises and all of the feedback has been positive. It is a more adventurous cruise plus you can get into the smaller ports.
