I wonder if anyone could figure out the percentage of lightning strikes to Marlboros ratios for forest fires. It's very smokey here in O-town today.

It is very bad here Bob. Apparently a cloud of smoke has pushed from the Gulf across the Tampa Bay area. According to the NOAA the smoke is coming from Georgia and the fires up in SoWal yesterday.

The weather is beautiful but we can't open the windows -- lots of smoke and a little soot too. The kids are all staying inside. 😱 Something to do with the cooler weather pattern. What a waste of what would be a nice day.

I was just talking to my old roommate who coincidentally is the owner of Shades. He said that he heard the Outpost was destroyed by the fire north of the bay. Can anybody confirm or deny that rumor?

I have not been up there and I heard that rumor, too. Talking with GreenRoomSurfer on Monday, he was describing the fire as being south east of the Outpost, and the wind was pushing the fire south, then southsoutheast. I saw Dwight today, but didn't get to talk to him to find out more info. Dwight's brother owns the Outpost.

Can someone update me on the fire??? I live in Ohio and aren't moving to Freeport until July, we have a house that was just finished outside of Freeport on Island Grove Road. I didn't even know there was a fire. Can someone please tell me if the fire is still burning, and where???

chiofam, the fire was nowhere near Island Grove Rd. It was about 10 miles east of there, as the crow flies, and we finally got a nice light rain today, and the humidity is thick tonight. The fire is out.

I had heard that the Outpost was ok and that the fire dept was using it as an area for staging their equipment during the fire.

The out post was not hurt in the fire it was to the east of the creek from around tubs Ln to Smoke house lake rd and burned around 1300 acres of land that was going to be the Wilderness at black Creek owned by Lee Perry. No homes was damaged in the fire. Walton County Fire Rescue did a great job keeping it from burning any structures.:clap_1:

Early reports are it's from previous fires to the east but it is getting very smoky in SoWal - you can even see it on the beachcam. :confused:

Smoke is very heavy in Destin. Going over the Destin bridge, you can't even see norreigo point. I am in Crystal Beach and the smoke smell is VERY strong. Called the fire department and they think it is the Freeport fire.

Smoke is so heavy in Sandestin you can't see the tops of the buildings.

Does anyone know if there is a new fire???

I just got off the phone with the info line & they said it was from fires in GA😱 , that there are no fires in Walton County today. If it's coming that far, then it's crazy there:blink: !

I heard that the smoke from those fires in SE GA and NE FL, were blowing smoke all the way to Miami, the other day.
