Garbage Pickup in SoWal- anybody else having problems?

We have not had our garbage picked up on our regular pickup day 3 days in a row- so problems started about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I called Waste Management today, and there has not been a change of pickup days, and she also was supposed to get somebody by to pick up our garbage today (our regular day).

It is still at the curb, and I guess it will have to be brought back to the garage so critters and the neighborhood dogs (owned by people who don't follow leash laws) can't drag it all over the yard.:bang:

Anybody else having problems? We are off E. Point Washington~

They came today, a day late. Last week they either came late or missed one of the days, but I can't remember. I was wondering if they changed the schedule. I'm in Driftwood Estates.

I'm out in Point Washington past Bay Elementary and I have been forgotten today.

Last Saturday they came about 3:30pm, but I'd assumed it was due to the tremendous amount of trash from a holiday weekend.

Since I put the trash out before midnight as they requested, its nearly impossible to keep the highly sophisticated double-teamed raccoons out of it, even with a pair of lit dynamite sticks attached to the locks, I swear.

Waste Management's # is (850) 862-7141- everybody call tomorrow!

I called today and was told the schedule had not changed, but my problem would be fixed- today. (It wasn't) It almost sounds like the entire area got new drivers, routes, something! Arghh!

according to Robert in Post #26 of the Recycling thread:

"I believe Commissioner Larry Jones works for Waste Management now..."
you might want to give him a call too.

My trash off E. Pt. Washington was not picked up today either. We have been missed a few times recently as well.

So if we forgot to take the trash up to the corner last night, there's a chance we could haul it up there tonight and it might get picked up tomorrow?

Or get strewn all over my cousin's green green grass waiting for Saturday?

Trash Talk

It seems that they have gone from one extreme to another. For a few weeks straight they were coming before 6am and no one got their trash out soon enough. Now they are late picking the trash up. We called it in one day and the lady we spoke to said it had already been reported that the trash was picked up. We explained there was still trash all down our street and she was very rude with her response and said she wouldn't be able to get anyone out here until the next day. Needless to say no one came that day and we had to bring the trash inside b/c they won't clean any mess the critters make. It's been very irritating!

Hogtown Bayou missed Tuesday, but picked up early Wednesday. Next pickup is Friday and I will report if they miss.

No missed pickups here in Blue Mountain.

Hopefully I won't jinx us today.

I am amazed how consistently good our trash pickup has been over the years. So far, garbage pickup is one of the wonders of my life. It's hard for me to even get my can out to the curb some days. A little personnel or mechanical trouble should be forgiven now and then. I always make sure to go out of my way to say a kind word to the sanitation engineers and septic tank pumper outers. I really feel like handing them twenties sometimes.

I agree. The people who work the trucks deserve a big Thank You.

That said, the woman who answered the phone at Waste Management when I called to inquire about some things was completely rude and unhelpful. Rather than simply telling me in a polite manner that she did not know the answer to my question, she implied I should never have asked, and besides, I was interrupting her!:bang:

Yes, most of the time the service is good (I have just resigned myself to the fact that I will have to clean up the street after they dump the trash and leave 5 or 6 things strewn around, but that is a different story). But 3 pickup days in a row with no pickup and no explanation is not a good job, and having to haul the trash out to the curb and back every day trying to "get lucky" with a pickup while avoiding having the trash trashed by critters is a little much.

The CSR I spoke with yesterday was polite, but clearly did not have a clue where we are and that there was anything wrong- like I was making it all up or something.

They are usually spot-on, keeping to their schedule. Holidays throw them off a day. I wonder if Memorial Day set them back. At my house, I noticed that they were late on Saturday, like after noon rather than 7am like usual.

Funny- the Skunks got their garbage picked up ON Memorial Day.

The service went from consistently right on schedule to completely random seemingly overnight.

You're right. Our pick up men do a very good job and it is not the easiest job in the world. Cut 'em a little slack, please.

If there has been a schedule change, or delays in service, Waste Management needs to let us know. We are into our second week of screwed up schedule.

Andy, I think it is a management problem--perhaps the people who work the trucks are just as frustrated as the customers! I don't think
anyone is directly attacking the workers.:D

I certainly hope not! I understand Waste Management needs to be notified of problems but the last thing I want to do is tick off our pick up men, who as I said, do a good job and are always courteous.

She should be sent out on the truck for a day.

Jdarg - they just hit my house and are probably headed your way.

Thanks- garbage is out (again). Crossing my fingers. Today is not our regular day, so don't know if we should put the garbage out on Saturday (our next regular day) or wait until Monday. We need a garbage psychic.

I agree that the WM truck crews are some of the hardest working people I've seen. I've seen them run to the garbage cans to get it on the truck more quickly -- very fast paced, and much stinky hard work. My hat's off to them all.

FTLOG- nobody is blaming driver guys for the schedule change! Why shouldn't we expect decent service, especially when bad service means garbage spread all over the neighborhood? One day is excusable, 3 is ridiculous.

Would everyone just look the other way if the mail didn't get delivered for 3 days, or if Chelco decided to just not provide power for 3 days?
