Garbage Pickup in SoWal- anybody else having problems?

We have not had our garbage picked up on our regular pickup day 3 days in a row- so problems started about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I called Waste Management today, and there has not been a change of pickup days, and she also was supposed to get somebody by to pick up our garbage today (our regular day).

It is still at the curb, and I guess it will have to be brought back to the garage so critters and the neighborhood dogs (owned by people who don't follow leash laws) can't drag it all over the yard.:bang:

Anybody else having problems? We are off E. Point Washington~

I know you aren't blaming the drivers. I just wanted to recognize the hard work those guys on the truck put forth.

I don't produce enough garbage to justify a pickup more than once per two weeks, but I certainly understand why delays in service would clog up the system and could cause critters to scatter garbage everywhere. Go get 'em.

Thanks- garbage is out (again). Crossing my fingers. Today is not our regular day, so don't know if we should put the garbage out on Saturday (our next regular day) or wait until Monday. We need a garbage psychic.

The only thing that pisses me off is that I cant leave the garbage out overnight if they go one day off schedule . I have to drag the garbage back into my garage at night or I will have the leftovers from a racoon feast strewn across my front yard and the street--now that is nasty!

You have seen our garage. You know we can't get into the business of long term garbage storage.:floor:

Today is not my regular day either.

I have resorted to using bungee cords on my lids. One time they disappeared. I don't think the garbage guys like them.

My garbage got picked up this week, but the neighbor's is strewn up and down the street! Don't know if that was the party house doing a bad job of bagging so animals got to it or what. :bang:

I figured the schedule might get off because of Memorial Day, but since mine is at the curb 24/7 I don't pay attention to what day they come until I have to go find the trash cans and lids in the shrubbery.

Or raccoons or possums or feral cats or stray dogs....................

A bear would be cool, but the smart money is on the overcrowded party house just not disposing of its trash properly.

Pickup

I live right off 30A and have had the same problem, with them being a day late. We've had the problem for the past two years. I called Waste Management--problem still continued. This year I called them and the county. Waste Management is supposed to be adding another truck for our area on Monday. We'll see what happens.

All OK over here too, assuming we actually remember to haul it up to the corner on the correct evenings.

We are still having problems. they picked up only one side of the road in our neighborhood Friday... If we didn't have the dumpster at my husbands office we would be on trash overload at least once a week...

I spent from 8am until 10;30 am loading my yard trash into cans and containers for a prearranged pick-up today. I found a message from Waste Management on my phone at 11 am informing me that the pickup would be delayed until Thursday. I appreciate their call. I also feel that all those houses that are along 30A that are getting residential rates but should have commercial dumpsters are getting a free ride. I do wish code enforcement would become proactive in enforcement. I see Code Enforcement as the protection for the little man who doesn

You either were here and accepted the rules that were part of the land development code or you have moved here and knew the rules when you came. I do not like the 'do it and ask for forgiveness' mentality that seems to be prevalent in South Walton now.

They finally got here after 1 today. After we had picked up all of the garbage strown across the street. Neighbors were dealing with the same.
I saw the garbage truck parked on a dirt road the other day while out running. The driver had his feet kicked up on the steering wheel just taking it easy. I don't what they were doing but they sure in the world were not picking up garbage.

How to manage a "pre-arranged" pick-up? I was told that was not possible when I inquired a few weeks ago? Thanks for any insight.

I received an automated phone call yesterday from WM. Said pickup would be delayed until Thursday and normal service would resume next week, apology, etc. But my normal pickup days are Mon and Thurs, and Mon my trash was picked up. :idontno: So I guess the automated message isn't route specific? But at least they seem aware there is a problem.

They have certain days that they will pick up yard stuff. We usually just load the truck and go to the landfill north of DFS but gas and traffic is bad right now. Anyway, if you call and advise them that you have stuff they will pick it up. There are rules like how long and what diameter tree limbs can be and usually you must put the stuff in bags or containers.

For your yard stuff, nothing over 6 feet long. Limbs, not logs. Clippings, leaves, etc. all bagged. I got fussed at by the driver a while back when I pruned a hedge.

You'll also have to bag anything that looks remotely like construction debris - scrap 2x4, carpet, bits of plywood, etc. They'll just leave it otherwise.

What time were you running? I hate to tell you this but even garbage men are entitled to a break and lunch time. I, for one, am sick and tired of all the griping about garbage pick-up. Ours was a day late this week and also one day last week. They are running behind because it is tourist season and we have had holidays which normally means more refuse. If you want to complain to waste management, fine, but leave MY pick-up personnel alone! Ours do a great job overall for us and we appreciate them greatly!

Excuse us Andy, but it is important to many people that the garbage is picked up on the appointed days. If the days are going to be different, fine, but let us know. Late and no pickup at all are 2 completely different things. There is nothing wrong with expecting consistency and good service from Waste Management, just like we all expect from any business.

And BTW- the service issues started a full month before tourist season.

Obviously we have different situations and attitudes regarding garbage pick-up.
Ours is picked up in cans that are contained in holders set next to our condo. There are three cans and unless renters are in the unit next to us, all three are seldom full. Since we don't have to move them in or out, if they are a day late it is inconvenient but not a disaster.
It would be almost impossible for waste management to call everyone on a given route, IMO. I agree that Waste Management should supply consistent and good service. Where we differ is, I consider their service to me to be good and consistent. Maybe to you it isn't. I consider anything that is 95% or better consistent and good. That is, conservatively speaking, what we have and I can find better things to gripe about.
My thoughts on the complaint about the driver with his feet up were appropriate. Everytime you see a parked police car, you don't necessarily think the cop is goofing off, do you? I know it wasn't your comment I am just reiterating. I understand your position it is just that I don't entirely agree with it.
