I just went and asked the SO that is blocking EPT, if it was contained and she said "Five more trucks just went that way...??? (shrugged). Supposed to be at work in an hour. Dont think that is going to happen. No way I am leaving my kids and pups with no way to get out if they need to.

I understand from talking to Sheriff's detective Steve Sunday who was stationed at the end of Bay Drive at the intersection of East Mitchell that the fire is contained. They don't know what caused it so unsure if it is all the controlled burns they've been doing in Pt. W State Forest. It is definitely east of Bay Drive, tho, and the west side of Bay Drive is not threatened.

I can see the wind kicking up any remnants of a prescribed burn. But the wind hasnt died down at all so I am still antsy about calling it "contained".

Just talked to some folks who live on Greenbriar on the McQuage Bayou. He said they saw the fire in the bayou and called 911 to report. Took a long time for responders to arrive on scene. The fire burned through the sawgrass and into their yard. They had to get out of their house, but think the house is ok. He reports that he is now a couple of streets over. Says fire is not contained, but that he didn't think it had blown into Grayton Bayou s/d yet. Says it burned into Bay Magnolia s/d side of McQuage Bayou also. Wind has been blowing strongly out of the east all day, so this should push fire westward unless the winds shift. Fortunately, there are some wide roads for the fire to have to jump, but with this wind or shift in wind, anything is possible. Hot ashes can blow in the wind and jump start new fires.

Reminder: close your windows to keep out any smoke.

Helicopters are still flying and I could only see smoke in the Bayou when coming down E Pt Washington Rd. That's all I know.

The State Forest has been burning the area for over a week now. Every night, from 331 to Pt Washington is smokey, and I can see small fires still burning on stumps when driving down 98 for the past week, including last night. It seems an odd place for a fire to start in the bayou, but I'm never surprised at anything anymore.

Just got a call from WCSD. Recorded statement said they are fighting an "active brush fire" in the Bay Magnolia subdivision. They said NO HOMES HAVE BEEN LOST. They said nothing about evacuation, but asked everyone to stay away. I am one block west of Bay Drive. I can't hear any sirens or see any smoke. I can smell it, but they have been doing a lot of controlled burns in the area. I'll update if I hear anything further.

Yeah, seagrovegirl, Bay Drive area has had a suicide by cop, a renegade bank robber, another suicide and now a fire. More excitement than this sleepy neighborhood deserves.
