The Walton County Sheriff's Department responded to a medical emergency call at 3:58 p.m. on 8/15/06 in front of the Sea Cliffs condominiums on Blue Mountain Road. Responders arrived to find a few beachgoers administering CPR to a white, middle-aged female who had been recovered from the Gulf.

Responders cleared the beach and immediately took over emergency treatment, but the victim remained non-responsive. Without being able to revive the victim, emergency officials transported the body to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, which was not able to provide further details. Witnessess were reluctant to share information with the media immediately after the incident.

The area that the woman was found is private, and no lifeguards were present. The South Walton Fire District was flying green flags at the time, and the water was clear. No further information has been made public at this time.

I witnessed the Emergency crew working furiously to revive this woman. They were relentless and worked it seemed for 20 minutes. Once they made the decision to move her to the EMT truck, they did so with much speed and care. The truck was parked in our cul-de-sak (Grande Beach Drive) and left with the sirens going. I was hopeful at that point the woman would survive.

I found the team to be extremely diligent in their task and I was very proud of our EMT crew. Although the outcome is sad, I take my hat off to the guys who tried to save this woman. Glad to know that is the quality of care we have here.

Everything about it seemed very hush, hush. Not too dissimilar to the recent wreck on 98/395. :idontno: Not much for information in the paper and I searched the local news/tv stations, without luck.

could it have been a cover up to save embarassment to the family due to circumstances unknown to us?

I was curious because I want to know if there are any risks that we should be aware of (other than regular beach safety -- e.g., don't swim alone, watch for rip tides, etc.), especially since it was a green flag day. I couldn't find anything mentioned in the Walton Sun.

A friend of mine that works out on the beach everyday swears it is here. Very mild but he gets sick in the morning on his run at the beach.....:idontno:

We were there August 17 - 25 and didn't notice anything in the Seacrest area. Water clear, air seemed clear. But we aren't sensitive to that kind of thing, though, so we may not have noticed if it was mild.

when there is red tide, you can't not know its there. it really makes you feel like you have an allergy or cold, much coughing, etc. but when you leave the beach area, it completely goes away. I haven't experienced it all summer. perhaps if its very mild, then maybe you have to be ON the beach to experience it. Typically, you just have to be somewhere near the beach - like shopping in Seaside...
