JB - you are a typical delusional Bama fan that thinks the world revolves around Tuscaloosa. Your new coach's plane hasn't even landed yet and you've proclaimed him the king of college football.

Sour grapes, as you keep referring to, comes after a loss. The only loss so far is the little bit of dignity that Bama had remaining, and it just left on the plane with a good man named Shula.

I don't wish Saban or your school ill will, but until proven differently, the home of the Crimson Tide is a coach's graveyard. And after the way Mike Shula and others have been treated you are simply reaping what you sow, IMHO.

Well, said Kurt and those are my feelings exactly. Except I am not a typical delusional Bama fan. :D

I am a die hard Alabama fan. I have been since I knew what football was. Some of the happiest memories of my life is watching Alabama football with my daddy when I was little and up until the time I flew the coop and started living on my own. And to this day I still talk to my daddy every Saturday after Alabama plays. Alabama football is bred in me and I live and breathe it. However, I am not delusional to think that this new coach is going to turn things around over night. It will take some time, and mark my word we will not win every football game next season. One can hope, but I don't think it will happen. We have a long row to hoe after what Mal Moore and the rest of the powers that be have done to our football program the last few years. It has been so hard to sit back and watch it all fall apart. It has been embarrasing to me as a Bama fan. There is a part of me that has a bad feeling about Saban. Not as a person, but as a coach that can live up to the expectations everyone seems to have for him. If he can live up to them and turn the program around then that will be great. But if he doesn't Alabama football will be forever screwed. IMHO.

Roll Tide!

But Shula had his chance. He was asked to change around his coaching staff and he didn't therefore, he faced the consequences. I think Shula wanted to leave.

I believe this, and he wanted to leave because of the Alabama Mafia, led by Bear, Jr.

Speculation is that Shula was listening to (bad) advice from Ray Perkins (Shula's coach at Bama- Perkins was believed to be positioning himself to succeed Moore as AD) to stand up to Moore and not make the changes Moore demanded. Shula presented his 2007 plan to Moore and was told to change it, only to re-submit it unchanged. After a team meeting in which Shula told his players that there would be no changes for the '07 season, he was quickly fired.

Don't feel bad for Shula. He willingly forced Moore's hand, and received a nice parting gift. He was also in way over his head.

I believe Saban will be very successful at Bama, and will be there a long time. Again, the money speaks. As to the money, I'm not happy about what Bama has done to rock the structure at both the HC and assistant levels, it's really going to affect the hiring abilities of all schools, but especially small ones (I mean, who doesn't love to see Wake Forest beat Georgia Tech!) But it was inevitible, if not Bama, someone else.

And as the Tide rises, so does Georgia. We play AU and UT annually, but only have to face UA occasionally. Saban will take top recruits from two of our top rivals and the Dawgs will benefit. Good thing we've got UA in '07 & '08, cause come '09 and beyond, Saban's players will be taking the snaps.

Saga of the day is where will Jimbo Fisher wind up.

Rumor in Noleville is that the offer from Bama is $800K. For an OC. We can't/won't match that, and I don't think we should try. Our other coaching vacancies are filling up nicely, and there are other hungry fish in the sea.

That said, I'd love Fisher at FSU. :D
