I was just looking at the schedule for the Rave in Destin Commons. I have been whining about the lack of independent and foreign films -- and even just films (as opposed to movies) playing in the area since I moved here.

How excited was I to see that Pan's Labyrinth is playing?! :clap_1:

Anyone interested?

They aren't foreign, but Notes on a Scandal and Little Children are kinda Independent and totally worth seeing. Both really creppy, but really good. Especially Notes on a Scandal.

Punzy- I met a guy Sat. night that said that Pan's Labrynth movie is really good.

"Cil, Donnie Darko is something of a teen cult favorite around here. It's Philippa's favorite. It IS strange! But very imaginative. I'm glad Fyl was around to interpret it for me. ;-) "

Actually I don't know about that "teen cult" description. This movie is being passed around work like wild fire, and we are the in the 30-50 age group. Seems that fans that like Butterfly Effect love Donnie Darko.

As for all of these GRAYT movies mentioned, my head is spinning, I don't know where to begin.

Maybe we should slow 'er down, and mention one movie at a time, allow that info to be absorbed, and leave it open for discussion. Of course I realize what is happening now is that (per the PM's I've received), that this is a topic that Sowalians are passionate about and have been bursting at the seams to "share the good times".

Now I've mentioned this one before in a seperate thread but I just watched it again this morning and am imploring each of you to watch. This is not a political left/right thing. This is something that is going on that each and everyone one of you need to be aware of, and need to help spread the word about. I did eight years in the Air Force am still involved with the active/retired community and know that this expose' is right on the money. I've worked in supply and contracting, and the stuff that went on there was a drop in the bucket compared to what is going on now.

I'm referring to the documentary "Iraq for Sale: The War Profiteers". PUH-Lease watch this film. I watched it again this morning and am taking it to work to start spreading it around. I had once applied for KBR Haliburton, but after researching it, turned it down. I don't care about the money, my ethics and values are much stronger.
This film is not hype and propaganda. Its the facts clear and simple. Don't watch it before going to bed though, like I did or you'll lose sleep. Watch it in the morning, then start letter writing, speaking out, cruising the website, and let your voice be heard.

OK, that's my review for the day. I'm done. Thank you for your time. I'm going to hit the shower and get ready for work.

Daughters of the Dust was a 1991 movie directed by Julie Dash. It told the story of three generations of Gullah women at the end of the 19th Century and beginning of the 20th, and focused on the family's migration from the Sea Islands to the American mainland.
Featuring an unusual narrative device, in being told by an unborn child, the movie gained critical praise, for both its rich language and use of song, and for its use of imagery. Another unusual feature of the film is that the much of the dialogue is spoken in the Gullah language.

I have seen it, and it can be a bit hard to follow but the dialect really adds to the whole movie experience.

Alli, you really need to see this one, especially since you live close to where it takes place.

For those of you who have not yet seen Run Lola Run, pay special attention to the soundtrack (it will be hard NOT to.) It's one of the best. I play it regularly when I'm running up against a hard deadline.

Thanks for posting! I just moved Run Lola Run to the top of my Netflix list. That music sounds like something I could use a little boost of right now.

I just got put in for a promotion, and will be in a training class from 8-5 for the next 5 weeks starting Monday, which means no more 2am posting, yet more time for MOVIES-yeah!

PS. Lets talk about Audrey Tautou... I am soooo in love with her. I think I've seen everything she's been in. I think. She melts my heart:love:
