Y'all know what many of the old-timers do to - uh - increase the acidity of the ground around their tomato plants and thusly enhance their crop? Hint: it also helps to keep deer and other wildlife out of the garden.

I'm told it works on jellyfish stings, too. But I think I'll stick to meat tenderizer and Miracle-Gro. ;-)

I'm calling BS on that one. The tomato plants in the yard where male family members and guests have "looked at the stars" are not doing as well as the ones on the porch..........and animals like to dig where they increased the acidity!

Pee-pee is basic, not acidic. I'm a gardener by trade and have seen many plants ruined by ammonia where dogs have marked their bushes. The ammonia is also why it works on jellyfish stings.

Most of the soil in the south is acidic already from all the pine and oak. (Most fresh clippings, shredded wood, etc. is acidic as it breaks down. This is one reason why you don't want to get mulch from someone's chipper and put it around your plants.)

I knew it was just an excuse for them to pee in the yard!

...and you never will with that attitude, missy! :funn:

True. :sosad:

Right now their containers are too small, and they have little bugs everywhere...white ones, green ones, brown ones. They're organic tomatoes & I'm trying to keep them that way, so what do I do about the bugs? :dunno:
