Lionel Ritchie with the Pointer Sisters opening... NOT, but I did see them in Auburn, AL. I could narrow my choices down to two for best rock concerts, and I'd say it was a tie.
in chronological order:
AC/DC with Kings X opening -- OMNI (Atl)
Pink Floyd -- GT stadium (Atl)
You would think that with both bands having such powerful music, that the focus would be 100% on the music, but you'd be wrong. Both were filled with props, and AC/DC is the hardest working band I've ever seen. Angus was running from one end of the arena to the other playing the whole time. About 2 hours into the show, each musician began to peel off, with maybe 3 minutes between each leaving the stage. (they were taking a break, but in a really cool way that I'd never seen.) Each had eventually left the stage and only the drummer remained, playing about a ten minute solo. The drummer had just left the band, The Cult, and had joined AC/DC, and he was playing three bass kickdrums as part of his set-up. It was the most amazing drum solo I've ever seen. Then, one by one, every band member trickled back in to the jamming lyricless song, with a couple of minutes between each one joining back in. They continued to play and the show lasted about 3.5 hours, with the drummer never stopping. I may have just talked myself into breaking the tie, and giving it to AC/DC, even with a stellar performance by Pink Floyd.
