:dunno: but sounds like you pinched a nerve. I bet it goes away like NoHall's did as quick as it appeared. :dunno:Advil is a good thang usually for inflammation. I always like a hot bath or a damp towel in a big baggy in the microwave. Stress does do so many dern things. Try and rest and pamper yourself AMAP. After all you only got one of you, and you're the one who has to take care of her. Rest, rest, rest. Holidays can be a lot of work when they should be about R&R for all. ;-) Take care sista.

It went away suddenly, but not quickly. It was a pinched nerve--the sciatic nerve. I'm all about taking ibuprofen, but if you take a muscle relaxer or something like that, you're in pain again as soon as it wears off. If it is a pinched nerve or an out-of-whack SI joint, an M.D. will only offer pain relief in the form of medication.

There are self-correcting exercises/stretches that can help get things back in line--the ones I do actually came from a P.T.

I've asked P.T.s, chiropractors, and massage therapists about ice and heat, and they tell me the same things: alternate. The ice is good for actually reducing inflammation (as is ibuprofen) but will reduce circulation/flexibility. Heat will help circulation and alleviate the pain in a lot of cases, but it increases inflammation.

Heat's just so dern soothing. Ya know my SIL turned me on to Ben Gay disposable back pain relief pads you tape on your back. It lasts 8 hours. They are the bomb. :D I don't know if it's really heat but it's super strong menthol in a gel like pad with self stick edges. Go get some pvix. You'll  it, gull! Have you tried them, NoHall? It's a red pack. Kind of high, like $10 but well worth it!

I haven't tried them. I'm an Icy/Hot girl myself, and I have this "bed buddy" thing that goes in the microwave.

I will say that Capzasin was once nearly the death of me. It has some sort of pepper in it. First it nearly burned my skin off. I went and washed up thoroughly, but apparently not enough. I ended up with my eyes burning--excruciating! I knew that if you drink water after eating hot pepper it makes it worse, so I soaked a washcloth in milk for my eyes... All of this to say that I've never used that stuff again.

I meant to also tell you about, a great product! It's called Biofreeze, is all natural and in a topical form(tube). You can get it at Massage & Physical Therapy businesses and others places, I'm sure. It's about $11 and lasts, forever! I have really bad Fibromyalgia with occasional muscle discomfort and that's the only stuff, that works! Good luck!

Biofreeze is a wonderful product. Except, if it is your back that hurts, you need someone to help you put it there, even in the roll-on form.
