Thanks, everyone! I'll try to go somewhere new this week and write another. ;-)

I think you should! How did you remember all the details- did you take notes? Excellent review, PV!

Although your sig line discussing horse meat probably doesn't go well with a food discussion.

Thanks for the reveiw...it'll be the venue for my birthday dinner.

Tell me....I didn't see the duck listed on their menu on the website--was it a special that night or is the website out of date.

I've had to return duck twice at two local restuarants. Will be refreshing to find a place that can get it right.

I have to tell ya the best duck on the planet Earth is served at the Four Seasons restaurant in NYC. Splurge and make it a birthday weekend in NY !!!
When is your bday? If I am in NYC at that time I will take you to the Four Seasons as my treat. I know the maitre'd there and I always get a table by the pool.

I've been wanting to try this place for a while. Been to Brennans and The Palace Cafe a few times in New Orleans and I had a feeling Royal B's would be good. Thanks for the review- we'll definitely check it out now.

Shelly - I'm a real duck fanatic, and I don't remember seeing it on the menu at Royal B's (doesn't mean that it's not there). I've ordered duck everywhere that I see it on the menu locally (and elsewhere), but I've found that Beachwalk Cafe consistently has the best duck I've had just about anywhere.

For a real bare bones duck dish, Smiling Fish Cafe has a nice one for lunch and dinner (one night a week) over spinach salad. For some weird reason I don't like my duck served already sliced. Both Beachwalk and Smiling let you do the work in that regard.

This is not to distract you at all from Royal B's, which should be a really good dining experience (better than those snacks you eat at those auctions and open houses). I think they have one of the best appetizers on the coast in their barbecue shrimp. The spiced butter sauce gives the dish a little kick and the smoked Gouda grit cakes are shaped in a ramekin (I?m guessing) and were crisp on the outside and soft on the inside - delicious!

The other appetizer there that you don't find much in our parts that I like a good bit is the turtle soup. If you are inclined towards this dish - this is the place to get it. Don't let the sherry get you too tipsy.

I also think the service is very good at Royal B's. Clark and/or Blake Brennan are usually on the premisis, and these guys have done a really nice job in training the staff here. I hope you have a good experience, and I think you will. Give us a report after your visit...I want to see if you are as upbeat in your restaurant reviews as you are in your take on the real estate market.:D

It seemed to me that it was a regular part of the menu. I imagine they change their menu periodically, though, which may explain why it wasn't on the website.

Have a very happy birthday (Whenever it may be) and I really hope you enjoy your dinner. :D

Excellent review TaterTot! I think you have found your calling. I could imagine the taste and texture of each item. Can't wait for your next review.

Tell Grandma Happy Birthday. Y'all really know how to celebrate a birthday.

Goofer, I think we have found our next road trip, we must go and see how it compares to your Four Seasons duck.

Shelly, Happy Birthday. Report back accordingly, let us know if you had to send it back. (why can I so visualize Shelly sending back dishes)

A local
How far in to Destin is it? This does sound grayt for a special occasion.

It is located at the entrance of Destiny on New Hwy 98. About a mile east of Bass Pro Shop on the South side of the road. Use to be Bianca's. Had 2 other names as well, but I can't remember them.

Royal B's is a wonderful restaurant. Someone mentioned the BBQ Shrimp. I almost didn't order it because I though it would taste like BBQ and I didn't want that on my shrimp. BUT, I gotta say, it is NOT like traditional BBQ and is absolutely delicious! The Gouda Cheese Grits are to die for. I actually called them after I ate there the first time to get the recipe for the grits!

Great review!
