My friend's goldfish Sam just turned 18 years old! He got a lotto ticket and extra peeled green peas to celebrate.

This fish has now survived 18 years, umpteen moves back and forth between home and college, 4 years of dorm life, and an extended road trip/move from Chicago to LA!

It would scare you if you knew how old a goldfish of mine would be if I had bought it in college. Scares the heck out of me!

I had a toy poodle that lived to be 18. She was bought for my 10th birthday and we buried her when I was 28! She was left behind with my mom when I moved off to college at the ripe old age of 7, so my mom had her longer than I did.

Couldn't let the fish question pass. After much extensive googling (2 minutes) the best I could do was a guppy. At 270 years to the human year that would make the gold fish 4,860 years old, give or take a century.
