It doesn't! He denounces the "venom" but doesn't disown a man he has come to love. << my take.
My 87 yr. old mother thinks "they" want to take over the country ..... God Bless her, she is a kind woman and didn't teach us prejudice growing up, but there is that fear of the unknown, a black man as President, that I presume makes her react as she does.
I do not like that she feels this way, but I know it is rooted in having lived in her small white rural community all her life without opportunities to experience many other cultures.
She's my mom. I don't agree with her. But I love her dearly.

You know the irony is if this church was not the church of Obama, it would be, or would have been, on the campaign stop for Hillary and McCain...politicians flock to the Black churches when they are on the campaign trail.

No. That is exactly why Romney's so called "speech" on Religion avoided the topic of Mormanism altogether.
My Daddy was one of the world's most generous, kind, warm and funny people. He grew up with older brothers fighting in the war and he lost a brother in Pearl Harbor. He had a general distrust of the Japanese. I couldn't stand his use of the phrase "Japs". But I loved him dearly and understood his feelings even though I never agreed with him on that topic. I don't dislike the Japenese even though no one on this planet has had more influence in my life than Daddy. We did not share a brain. We are free independent thinkers.
As a serious comment and an analguous situation to this thread, very, very good point!
And please know that I mean no disrespect of Catholics. Being from New Orleans, virtually my entire family and most of my friends are Catholic. I attended Catholic school for 12 years. Every priest I encountered personally was wonderful. But the fact remains that some in a position of power and authority abused that privilege both in action and in cover-up. I don't want this to become the focus of this thread, but just want to make the point that we all operate from the basis of our own life experience. And we - all of us - are multi-faceted.
Jesus said that we should hate the sin, but love the sinner. Obama merely said (eloquently, I might add) that he renounced the message, but loved the messenger, nonetheless.
