I'm surprised this thread is still going! Obviously, I'm not the only one that has struggles with the use of cell phones. Kat. (the person of whom this thread was started) is still turning in her phone on school nights but can keep it on the weekends. I'm thinking there needs to be a book written on cell phone etiquette. Any authors out there:D There are adults that I've been sitting down and having dinner with that will get a text or call and will answer and carry on a conversation right at the table. :bang: Now, I don't have a problem when an emergency comes up or something important happens, but if it were me I would excuse myself and take care of such text or call.
Not only children but adults also need some lessons on good cell phone manners.

This is going to sound stupid but it's one of the reasons I quit my perfectly good, flexible, stay at home, part-time job. I was someone's office assistant. When we would have our weekly meeting at the office she would constantly get and take cell phone calls or texts. Most of the time it was only an hour or two but I would be sitting there doing nothing while she was chatting it up. Drove me up a tree. My time was valuable too. She would always apologize saying that was important blah blah blah.....little things add up.

The problem with books on manner of any type including cell phone use, is that those that need to read the book, never would.

I have quit paying the high prices for movies due to the ongoing problem here with cell phone abuse.:bang:

who is so important that they must have their cell phone turned on while eating a meal in a restaurant? not me. not saying I haven't done it - I have. but I try to remember not to - I forget its in my purse sometimes which is bad because it did ring in yoga once and I almost died of embarrassment. If I'm out and the kid is at home with a sitter, I'll take my cell phone in with me to dinner or movie but set to vibrate. if not for the kid I would never carry it in to a place I want to enjoy and relax.

the other day I spent the entire day on the road between here and PCB without cell phone (left it at home) - yes there were some calls I wanted to make, but it was real freedom to not have it at all.

The one time I forgot to turn mine off or at least on vibrate during an event was during last summer's banquet of the statewide tax association I belong to...and as chance would have it, it rang during the blessing.:blush:

Stop. Ya'll are scaring me. I was so proud of Sam yesterday. I asked her if she was going to a friends party friday night. In her exact words...Vegas theme, boys, girls + hot tub. I don't think I should go. I think things will go on that I shouldn't be around.:clap::clap:
I told her I didn't know boys were going ( 8th grade could go either way) and that I was proud of her for making that decision. Yay me! I didn't have to be the bad guy for once!
OL sounds like you have a grayt kid!

Scooterbug, this is an unreasonable comment and assumption. I think it?s a little worrisome that you could derive from my post that you find it worrisome that he gets ?homesick that easily.? You can?t be serious. How did you come to that conclusion? We?re talking about maybe once a year. But you didn?t know that, did you. The post about my son calling home can & should be correctly taken as a healthy sign of love . (and so what if he was homesick? Then I know I?ve done a good job of parenting.)

You have misinterpreted my comments on the cell phone issue. In fact, you just may have misinterpreted the issue on teens in general. Until you know someone well, it?s probably safer and makes more sense not to lump everyone in your online research. Have you even read these articles? Please explain how they have anything to do with a child calling home once in awhile (even the home sick children). Thank god my son wants to call home. Believe me, if he didn?t, that would be a problem to truly find worrisome.

I?m of the belief that all kids (teens or otherwise) are basically good people if given the chance. They will always need help, direction, and guidance to become strong adults. It is then passed on to others.
.
I know that when a child (even grown ones) call their mom's just to tell them hello or miss you etc,it makes us mom's soo very happy!Cell phone or no cell phone

Obviously that would make a mom happy! I'm not anti call your mom, the reason I found it weird was that it sounded like the kid was calling when he hadn't been away from home for more than 12 hours!
