Dog-sitting.

I need a dogsitter to pop in for 20 minutes for three days in a row, and it's impossible to find anyone. An easy need to fulfill, and the most popular dogsitter in the area is away at camp this summer.

Tangent alert....
How much do you think it will cost? I am looking for one and got a rate of $15 per visit or she will come three times and stay overnight for $50 a day. Is that in the ballpark of what you've been hearing?

Yes. Dogsitting is an excellent choice. I have a friend was a high school English Lit. teacher who started her own business about 5 years ago. She quit her teaching job and now has about 6 employees and she just told me the other day that 2 of her walkers made 30K each last year! That's 3 - 20 minute visits/walks a day. Rain or shine, snow, or excessive heat. But still not bad for a job that comes with no mandatory staff meetings, office politics or deadlines. ;-) I have no idea what she makes but it has to be much more than her teaching job!

that's exactly what we pay in this area. However, it should be cheaper if it's a regular daily job while the owners are at work. Those are basically "potty breaks" for the pup, then the owners return home and do the walking & playing.

So we haven't even gotten to posting ideas for how to cut expenses but I gotta chime in with some unsolicited commentary-

Per so many of the ideas in this thread-
I see it is fair to say that it is completely doable for someone in a tough spot (e.g. single mother, deadbeat dad, foodstamp allowance cut by $200) to get through it without charity...

Nothing wrong with the charity- it is intended to help folks who need the help...

But nothing wrong with being reminded that nothing can stop you if you put your mind to it and work hard...

Thx in advance for not flaming me for this post...

This is a great idea! I have a friend that did it here in Atlanta -- with 3 kids in tow. Some days they were really busy but othes she had time to still play!

.

We're headed for Ireland in July and would be paying a kennel $15 a day, but a 14 year old neighbor boy who is too young for other jobs is thrilled to come walk our dog 3 times a day for that amount. In the heat of the afternoon, he'll just let her out to pee.

Of course, in this situation there is no need to drive somewhere to be able to do the job so he has no extra expenses. Fancey will be much happier here than in a kennel and a kid gets work experience and a chance to make some summer $$.
