They have a really cool main street area downtown that they make mostly pedestrian after hours. Be sure to go to the restaurant, Trio, downtown

Bless your heart. I used to live there. As singingchix said, go downtown, it is the most exciting thing around Greenville. Downtown is actually pretty cool, and revitalized, though not much of a nightlife. For a good time bar, you must go to the Handle Bar. Im sure they have a website to see who is playing. The best BBQ I've ever eaten is in Greenville. I cannot remember the name of it, and it is a little quirky regarding driving directions, but is is located maybe a mile east of the north western corner of downtown.

If you are going north from there, check out the hiker store, I forget the name, in T.r. (stress on the "T"). T.r. is short for Traveler's Rest. Only 1.25 hours north of Greenville is a much more fun place, Asheville, NC.

My experience of Greenville is as follows: It's the best way to get from Georgia to places north of Greenville (such as Charlotte) on I-85. It's also the best way to get back home from places north of Greenville on I-85. It's also a good idea to buy gas there before crossing the state line into Georgia.

I hope it's much more interesting than what I just described...:D

Greenville was pretty boring when we lived in Spartanburg for five years. The only time we'd go to Greenville is to party or eat. We went to a club on Pelham Road that always had good entertainment. One night we'd had a few too many and got up on stage with Percy Sledge and started dancing to "When a Man Loves a Woman." He thought it was funny and invited us to his dressing room.

We'd also go to a fish camp there called The Old Mill Stream. I think it's no longer open, as is true for that club.

Other than that, we escaped the Greenville-Spartanburg area about every other weekend and drove to Atlanta where we could shop the right way, dine in style, and stay with and visit Mom.

I went to a conference in Greenville a few years ago and thought I would claw my eyeballs out because it was so boring. I mean, it gave me an anxiety attack. I ended up driving to Spartanburg and staying at our best friends' house. They are such grand hosts, she is an excellent cook, and randomly her children who are my godchildren drop by, which is a nice treat.

Sorry if I have offended anyone who lives in Greenville or Spartanburg, but I just love living near my hometown Atlanta.

Oh, yeah, what we liked the most about Spartanburg is after church on Sunday afternoons taking a picnic lunch, driving up I-26 to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and enjoying the beauty of nature. Our best friends' parents have a 30-something-acre compound with several houses in Flat Rock, next to the Carl Sandburg estate. We have had some great parties there.

Wait! You can't end a story like that with, "he invited us to his dressing room." Did you go?

A good friend of mine, Mark, owns Arizona Steakhouse. Good food--upscale casual. Tell him Clint said hello. He can fill you in on anything you might want to do in Greenville. We've had some good times in Destin--sit at the bar and have a drink together and I'm sure he'll share some stories.

I worked in Spartanburg, and can say that while there is a lot of money and new industry out there, there is nothing fun to do there, unless your idea of fun is going to a Woffard College football game.

Just north of TR, which is north of Greenville, is a great little town called Tuxedo, home of the Purple Onion, which is a cute little restaurant in the middle of the some of the most beautiful land in this Country. (I say that having traveled to all corners of the USA, except for Alaska and Hawaii.) The food is good, but the vibe is incredible.

If you go in the right time of the year, you can scoot up to Tryon, NC, for one of the biggest BBQ cook-offs in the USA. It is maybe an hour away, and is interesting if you have never been to a BBQ festival.
