They just couldn't focus on the problem at hand. A lot of Senators got a lot of little earmarks attached to the bill. Here is a link to pdf of the bill itself.

The bailout bill contains the following "new" pork::

Film and Television Productions (Sec. 502)
Wooden Arrows designed for use by children (Sec. 503)
6 page package of earmarks for litigants in the 1989 Exxon Valdez incident, Alaska (Sec. 504)
The bailout bill extends this existing pork:

Virgin Island and Puerto Rican Rum (Section 308)
American Samoa (Sec. 309)
Mine Rescue Teams (Sec. 310)
Mine Safety Equipment (Sec. 311)
Domestic Production Activities in Puerto Rico (Sec. 312)
Indian Tribes (Sec. 314, 315)
Railroads (Sec. 316)
Auto Racing Tracks (317)
District of Columbia (Sec. 322)
Wool Research (Sec. 325)

I feel so much better about the economy, knowing that the will be an exemption from excise tax for the folks who make wooden arrows for children.

if they keep voting down the bill, we are all going to suffer the consequences of punishing "wall street"....better to look at the big picture of the credit markets being frozen.

All these sweeteners remind me of Saccharin. In labs it causes cancer, but the government will tell you no it doesn't.

Nice. Hide all the loopholes, bailout of foreign Banks, and every other piece of crap in this bill with nonsense. :bang:

Nice to know we can agree. People writing and calling their representatives voicing displeasure need to be very careful that they understand fully what is occurring.

I emailed my 2 senators from Ga yesterday to say that I agree that we do need a solution, but we need one crafted after more analysis and productive discussion. One that protects the voters and focuses on the problem at hand by being free of pork (although I didn't use that term.)

I haven't seen the vote tallies, but apparently it didn't do much good.

You are kidding aren't you? There's not a chance he will stop it. For that matter, neither will McCain. They(the congress) have a 10% or so approval rating and yet they still get elected. The "pork" is why. Everyone likes "their" senator or congressman but not the body as a whole. As long as they keep bringing home the bacon it will remain that way. As P.J. Orourke said and I'm paraphrasing, "Every government is a parliament of whores and in our democracy, the whore's are us". It is truely pathetic.
