We walked the beach this evening and Destinscuba found a real live honest to god message in a bottle. It has been floating since December 25, 2006. Everything is still intact and we are assembling a care package to send. If anyone would like to donate a small item, sticker, or post card please feel free to contact me. We want to ship it out by December 10th to arrive in time for it's 2 year anniversary.

Picture of bottle to follow.

Well the mystery is solved as to the origin. It traveled a long way from Seaside.

:rotfl:...something is so wrong here.

Big difference between a kid releasing a 'message in a bottle' as part of a scientific experiment/way to foster learning and people littering and dumping barges of trash into the ocean.

IMO a kid who gets a cool package w/ info about the oceans, turtles, and trash is much less likely to be one of the MANY idiots who pollute our beaches, yards, and planet!

So, what was that bottle doing the whole time? It took a year? It still amazes me that it actually reached the shore and someone was able to find it. I'm so jealous!

Maybe the bottle is just a slow swimmer? :dunno::shark:

SWGB- So when is the package going to be sent out? What all do you have so far to send to him?

In light of recent developements, a few questions should be raised...

How clean was the bottle? Two years in the gulf should have left it pretty nasty.
It traveled only a mile in two years?
Are you sure of the date? Maybe young squire Zach is trying to pull a funny on somebody...

I still think it's cool, though!

If you are adverse to prune juice, how about a little Exlax? Seriously, lighten up and enjoy life without having a hissy fit about the environment. It does a better job of taking care of itself than all of us can do in our efforts to try and improve it. Of course we should be aware of the problems that confront it and do our best to prevent further harm to the environment. We also should be able to enjoy our lives without being afraid that every move we make will be harmful to nature. The world is a really big place and, while we should remain diligent in our care of it, we should also realize it is here for not only our care but also our enjoyment. We can take care of both if we don't let one overload the other.

It was clean, however it looked like the normal little nubs at the bottom or a glass jar have been worn off by the sand. In fact for, what I'm assuming, is such a cheap bottle it is very smooth. I would imagine that it spent a lot of time rolling in the waves and sand and couldn't collect any scum or algae.

I do know that the bottle was purchased as a kit locally, but at the risk of that shop suddenly having an arson problem I will decline to mention them here.

Thus far we have the following:

1 Bottle beach sand
1 Bottle salt water
1 Sowal sticker
1 30A Television sticker
1 Local map
1 Turtle phamplet
1 Remove it or lose it pamphlet
1 Beach litter pamphlet
2 Letters (one has a translation included as my neice wrote it)

Would like:
Seaside rep sticker
30A Radio sticker
SoWal merchandise (I am paying for the shipping ;-))
Anything else anyone would like to put in the package within reasonable limits. I'll be at the Dirty Santa Ball on Saturday and the package goes out on December 10th.
