I love popcorn! Without adding the oils and toxic orange stuff it is actually a high fiber and healthy snack. Rapunzel will not let me pop it in the house, however. Apparently at her old work she was close to the break room and that smell of microwave popcorn dredges up unpleasant memories or some such.
so wierd...... someone i used to work with had the same aversion to the smell of popping corn. i'm eating a big bowl of kettle corn right now. mmmm....

I bought an old-fashioned stove-top popcorn maker from Williams-Sonoma last year and, unlike many of the kitchen and household gadgets I fall in love and out of love with, this one has staying power! It is wonderful to eat plain old popcorn, not that nasty microwave stuff that is more artificial than natural. Of course it is helpful to live in such a big corn growing state like Indiana. We can get our hands on the really good stuff. I make the best popcorn in the world!
Big D is so excited to hear this. His sisters in Wisconsin send him good popcorn from there, and I'll bet you have access to better popcorn in the Midwest than we have here. We'll bring our stove-top popper to the beach and cook dinner for you if you'll make popcorn. I promise I won't have any sports on TV or Blackberry.

He wants to know if you prefer white or yellow.

Good, I thought it was just me and my lack of make-up skills! I love it, but get it everywhere!
No, it's not your skillz. That stuff just makes a mess.

Deal! I've thought about bringing the popcorn maker to the beach, to tell you the truth, but I never have so far. Another thing I've almost brought with me is my ancient VillaWare belgian waffle iron. It's built like a tank and makes the best waffles ever (from scratch, of course).

Tell Big D I like yellow popcorn; preferably Amish. It's kind of a crap shoot though. I've bought so-called "gourmet" specialty popcorn--the kind that comes in itty-bitty bags and cost ten times at much as the grocery store variety--and it's been full of partially popped kernels. Philippa likes that kind but it drives me crazy! I don't think my teeth appreciate crunchy critters. I've had the best luck with the Amish corn.

All I put on freshly popped corn is a bit of French sea salt and sometimes not even that. If the corn's good you don't need to disguise it with a lot of dressing/

Don't bring the waffle iron -- just go to Red Bar. Their waffles and butter are so addictive that daughter jokes that they have crack in them.

Hubby's favorite is white popcorn. He says it's more tender than yellow, even though the kernels are smaller. We'll try the Amish -- thanks for the suggestion.

I'll bring my popcorn and you bring yours and we'll do a taste test.

Hubby has an addiction to popcorn. We have two popcorn poppers. He loves his big dome thing and I prefer my air popper. I recently discovered how to make cheese popcorn and it's sooooo good. It completely cancels out the nutritional qualities of popcorn, but it's to die for.
