Not all that

Now I get the Russell Crowe part but Mickey has always creeped me out.
Saw Russell Crowe up close and personal in Rome a few years ago. He looks much better on camera. And his personality was certainly abrasive, to put it politely. I do think he is a good actor... Maybe a date would be cool if he would stay in "Gladiator" character.

Just saw The Wrestler. Very good. A must see.
can't wait.

I thought he was very gracious and honest.
And he loves his dogs!

YouTube - Mickey Rourke on The View (part 1)

thanks for posting that interview. I have only seen his interview on Letterman which was pretty good too. Loved The View interview. He is very real, and did a great job talking to those ladies in a very real way.

I thought he said it well when he talked about thinking that acting was all about the art and the purity of it and how he wasn't prepared for the politics of the industry (back then).

I never would have figured him to be a "small dog" person either.

I didn't know about all his dogs until recently, but I love hearing him talk about them. he calls one Fat Bastard. :rotfl:

perhaps I have always liked him because he is so much like some of my own friends and loved ones who have learned many lessons in life and finally find success in their personal and professional lives through those lessons. in other words, they take a long time to grow up. but they are the ones who are most genuine, humbled, and they learn the most about what life is really about. typically, they are grateful for the people in their lives and they are the last to judge others. I have nothing but admiration. not to mention great respect for his acting ability - which I've enjoyed over many years. so glad he is being recognized for his work (golden globe, academy).

Being yourself, not what others think you should be, is sexy. I thought Mickey looked pretty healthy and sane on "The View". Hollywood is full of cookie cutter pretty boys- not that interesting to me.

can't wait.

 Here, here! Thanks for standing up for the underdog.

I have always heard that he is a very private person and struggles with shyness. It's wonderful when someone can help others get through difficult public appearances! Some of us (speaking for myself) don't have the gift of speaking in public.

I understand completely Gyps! Mickey is not your normal kind of guy. he is certainly no role model. he has a sordid past for sure. and most of his roles are characters who are most bizarre and/or creepy. and his looks, well, let's just say his face has seen better days. he is very rough around the edges.

you either like him or you don't. we've watched him forever and in the process developed a deep appreciation for his work for many reasons. including appreciating the fact that he is creepy. if that makes any sense whatsover.

His interview was excellent, imo. he was so on his best behavior, which cracked me up.

here with letterman, he talks about some of his sordid past. there are two parts, but I could not find the second part to post here (it can probably be found on letterman's website in entirety)! I saw it a few weeks ago on TV.

After watching 9 1/2 weeks for the umpteenth time I became a fan for life, think I have seen every movie he has done and I am thrilled he has made this come back.
I sat on the steps of his house in Miami once just hoping he would come out and fall over me.

ha! you too? I'm not surprised. good to see you around here!
