I figured I'd buy a few thousand vegetable seeds and try some farming to be sure to have food if the market stays uncertain. I've got some experience in growing my own, but I sure could use some local experienced advice. Is there a special interest forum or Thread out here in SoWal.com for gardening?

Nope, but I think you just started one.

Anyone know what the germination for mint is?

I love how everyone thinks that they can outwit Armageddon with a garden plot - like starving folks wouldn't steal your under-ripe produce.

Growing your own food is a great idea for reasons of health and taste, but be realistic.

My Nana had a great garden here in SoWal. All you need is some good compost and tender loving care. Get a rain barrel, etc. and between that and spring rains, you should have a lovely spring garden. My Mom is having better luck with her open compost pile rather than the "official" compost bin. Go figure. Now is the time to start your gardens. Some plants are already starting to pop out of the ground.

That's why we go with planters, Armageddon comes along and we can just move it inside.

How's your plan of letting the plants die before they mature working out for you? ;-)
