Scream (at something/someone or just do a primal) or physically vent in some way - driving range, yardwork (clearing brush, chopping down tree), swimming, boxing, demolition project, hammering anything.........

Cuss (in those situations it's not curse) like a sailor.

That's what I do. I also cuss when I am not angry, but it's just not as loud. I have come to terms with it, knowing there are not enough bars of soap in the world to fix this problem.

Hmmm...I throw things, but not anything I have to clean up later. Last night I got upset and threw a script, but I threw it straight down so that it would make that satisfying loud noise but not tear.

I've found something else that's good about crocs: They bounce. I actually pegged a student with BOTH of mine a few weeks ago. They bounced off his 17-year-old skull and hit another kid--bonus.*

I also tend to write when I'm angry. It's cathartic.

*I wasn't actually angry anymore when this happened...

I'm glad I found this thread. I am in a terrible mood. Today is my 39th birthday and almost everyone forgot. I had an "appropriate dress" argument with my teenage daughter about an hour ago. I skipped lunch so I could leave work early to take said daughter to an afterschool function. No "thanks Mom" in sight. Now I have hours of work to make up before tomorrow. Hubby is bowling tonight, so kids and I are eating leftovers. I can't say this is the best way to spend a birthday.

I need an attitude adjustment... focus on the positive and all that good stuff. I am grateful for my job and my husband. I am thankful for my teenage kids. I know I will miss them when they're grown. I am grateful for my health and for the things I learn as I age. I am thankful for the wealth of info on SoWal and for this sounding board.

If I just concentrate on the good stuff, maybe I won't be so angry about the bad, although the wine in the frig. may offer a quicker resolution (after Hubby gets home)!

May I recommend doing what I'm doing and reschedule your birthday? Mine was spent dealing with a broken-down car 250 miles from home. Beats the heck out of another friend's birthday this past weekend, when her best friend died...

I'm shooting for mid-June for a make-up birthday. Wanna celebrate?

Great idea! My birthday micro-drama is petty compared to folks with real issues. I will reschedule to a more celebritory date. Mid June should work nicely! You are very wise.

I research. If I'm mad because @$#%#% don't work, I research on how to fix it or to get justice. When the kids give me grief, I research psychology garbage. I usually learn that I'm better off than some parents of teens (Gardening, if you need to feel better, PM me and I'll send you some stories that will make your ill dressed and ill mannered conflicts seem like kisses)...and then I go out and walk, run, or paddle to organize my thoughts AND THEN, I take all of my new ammunition and launch a lengthy verbal statement of my position and dare anyone to challenge me to a debate!
