As far as I can tell, this bill has yet to be voted on in either the House or the Senate, but has been recommended out of committee, and unless I miss my guess, the votes will be taken without much press or advance notice.

For reference, this is HB 1219, status is described in detail at:

CS/CS/CS/HB 1219 - Regulation of State Lands and Oil and Gas Resources

Also for reference, in the event you don't know, for Sowal, your State Senator is Don Gaetz:

Senators :Member Pages : flsenate.gov

And your State Representative is Marti Coley:

Florida House of Representatives - Marti*Coley*

This thing is being snuck in like a rhino under a tent.

There is also a good explanation of the existing law, and the proposed changes, at:

FYI, Rep Coley is in favor of the bill, according to her ofice.

I don't know yet about Rep. Gaetz.

Folks, this is really about the Destin Dome, so you better read about it, and decide whether you agree with the bill or not.

Off LA and TX, how far out are the rigs? Are they safe? Ever had an accident or oil-spill? State regulated or fed? Off FL, in the Gulf, how rich in oil are the fields/reserves? Been tested?

I don't know enough about this, but am interested in our nation becoming more self-sufficient/reliant if it is handled properly. I am also interested in alternative energy/fuel sources.

So, I don't know? Is this a step in the right direction?

Good questions - the link I posted about the FL bill has information about the estimate of oil and gas in the gulf, based on testing. The biggest gem sitting out there right now seems to be the Destin Dome, which is a natural gas field sitting between Navarre and Destin.

I don't know whether there have been documented cases of natural gas wells which have caused environmental issues - only oil wells.

As for the Tx/LA coasts, well, you notice where those folks go, when they go to the "beach".....:welcome:

I had the bill open, but had to run. Looks like quite an investment for any corp. to drill off the coast of FL and how much of that $$ benefits the State? I am not asking you directly, I am just posing questions for discussion.....I will research these issues when I have a moment.....whenever that will be.

As for the TX and LA beaches: TX just plain has no pretty coast line as far as I know.....haven't been to Corpus Christi, however. And, LA isn't know for great beaches, but is known for unbelievable fishing. I don't think having such abundant marine life shows negligence or instability with the rigs off their respective coasts.

I am all for natural gas: it's safer and cleaner, but am still a proponent for alternative fuel/energy sources.....as well as energy independence. Thanks for those links.....I'll get to them hopefully sometime this week! :D

Cheers~~~~~
