Gotta good story about when the tornado hit the Dome. It's funny now but wasn't at the time. When the storm hit the Dome I told my wife, I wish we could have a storm come through and blow some shingles off of the roof so the insurance company would pay for a new one. I knew it was getting close to time to replace them with the house being 15 years old. Well, as I wished, the next day our house was hit my a small EF0 tornado and it got more than a few shingles. It got most of them, along with destroying the siding and breaking windows with baseball size hail. It even damage my truck inside the garage by driving glass into the side of my truck and hail stones denting the side where it blew the windows out of the garage. Needless to say, we not only got a new roof, we got new siding, new windows, new carpet and new floors. So as the old saying goes, Be carefull what you wish for!!! :yikes:

Glad it worked out for y'all and you were safe!! Had a neighbor once make a similar wish. I completely negated that wish and storm went right past us......I didn't have the energy to deal with a busted up house that year.

I have some cool pics of that storm.....luckily I wasn't in town, but a lot of my friends in CabbageTown sustained tremendous damage! So much for believing that tornadoes don't hit cities .

Thanks for the update Miss Kitty! I hope DD is no longer in shock!

OMG!

Wow...sorry for the loss of updates! My computer went all haywire last night and I was just able to get back on! Had a few light flickers, but never lost power.

Last report from DD was last night after she got home. Her power was out and she was calling me from her car because her cellphone was out of juice! Luckily, she did get home safely. Lots of wind damage in the metroplex. Reports of a tornado just north of DD.

It is raining cats and dogs again...we've probably had over 6 inches here. Molly has been barking all morning at the thunder. :bang: She also got soaking wet going potty this morning.
Glad DD is okay. Stay dry, y'all.

Apparently it is headed to Atlanta this afternoon.

Finally heard from our DD...her power is still out. She was on her way to work in the pouring rain. She wants y'all to know she will give her report asap. It should be a good one...there's nothing better than DD on a cussing roll. :rotfl:

Good luck to my pals to the east...it is still raining and tons of lightning/thunder here. Oh, and I have a gutter leak that causes a mini Niagra Falls on the deck! :bang:

DD, glad you are okay. I know you hate wind.

A wonderfully dear friend of mine was in my truck one day when I pulled into a gas station car wash. My dear friend is a little slow at times and asks what I'm doing. I said I'm getting a car wash. He was okay. Until it started. I have never seen someone so freaked out in my life. I thought he was going to force the truck into drive and push the accelerator. Once we got through it and I gave him a cigarette (he didn't ever smoke before or after that) he explained. As a small child his father was in the military and they were on a base somewhere in Alabama in a trailer when a tornado came through. He was trapped in the tub under his mother and aunt. He said the only thing he remembers is the wind and shaking cankles. His mother and aunt are LARGE women, I've met both and can vouch for this. He was terrified that they would have heart attacks and smother him. To this day he hates high winds and bad weather.

:rotfl::rotfl:OMG!! Love this!! Poor guy!!!

Let me jsut say that I have been through 48 hours of hell and come out on the other side. I must also say that I have a new found respect for those of you who have lived through hurricanes and their aftermath.

Here's my story--indulge me.

Wednesday, June 10th 5:30 pm: Sunkist and I haven't seen much of each other for a few days so we decide to go to PFChangs for dinner. My favorite place. On the way there, I inform her that we MUST get gas when we leave the restaurant. We arrive, no line, are seated. Order dinner. The man across from us is informing the waiter that they have sought refuge since there's a huge storm coming soon.
Dinner was fab, storm clouds looming. Check took forever to come...clouds getting darker and closer. Power goes out. Pay check and Hurricane arrives. Not sure what to name the storm, but hurricane is pretty accurate. Horizontal rain, huge lightning. Kitty calls to check on us..:love:Wait in foyer for it to blow over. Didn't happen. Talk to Kitty, go to bar. Rain finally slows down.
Drive home. Trees down everywhere. Arrive home. No power--btw--a recurring issue here lately. Call power company. A pucking nightmare. Never got to talk to anyone. For future reference, always choose option 4, "to report power lines down"--then you get a real person. The phone calls were made ONLY after I discover my cell is out of juice and Mr. DD can't find his in the dark. I have to go to my car and power mine up to call his so he can locate it. Y'all think you've heard ME cuss--I am NO match for Mr. DD. The slamming of doors always adds emphasis too. I finally go to bed at 9:00 jsut sure that the power will come back on soon. Wrong. No power all night. No sleep.
Get ready in the dark the next morning. Get in the car and remember I have no gas. Plug in cell. Call Kitty and check in. Rain and lighning begin again. Not stopping for gas now. Arrive at work in hurricane #2. Soaked. No power at work. Generators humming...no...roaring. No computer. Come home at 4--still no power. Call Kitty.
We all go to bar for 3 hours thinking surely we'll have power when we get home. Wrong. No power, and all the power trucks have passed the restaurant headed out of town for the night, I suppose. :cuss:
Go to bed. No sleep.
Get ready for work by throwing on some shorts and a T-shirt. No make up, but I did wash my hair. Arrive at work. Go straight to garden and begin pulling mountains of weeds. Don't even speak to most of my co-workers. Most didn't know I was there all day. Sweat my ass off.
Call Mr. DD. Still no power. Arrive at home and pick up Lex and Andrew..off to WalMart. At least it's cool there. Wrong. Hot in WalMart. Buy an iced coffee at McD's (totally against my principles, but hey, these are desperate times). Buy birthday presents. Go home. On my street are POWER TRUCKS!! Oh happy day!!
Stop and talk to them. They assure me mine's fixed. I tell them I could kiss them. Come in house. Not fixed. :cuss:
Drive around. Look for the guys. Nowhere to be found. Call Kitty.
Talk to my boss about black bean salsa on my cell while running my car since I still have no juice. Hang up on my boss when I see the power guys drive by. What luck!! I'm already in my car!! I chase them down and am prepared to offer them sexual favors if they'll jsut come freakin' look at the transformer that blew up at the end of my driveway. It is only then that I discover there's half a freakin' tree on the thing!! They look. They call the tree guys. Tree guys show up half an hour later. They climb tree in neighbor's yard. Cut tree down. Power guys discover fuse is blown. They go get new fuse. Jack around with it for another 45 minutes. Say they have to go down the street to finish the job. I threaten to revoke any favors if they do not return. Neighbors all driving/walking/scootering by to see what's up. POWER ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm now cool and rested and still up for some cussing. Anyone game?
