Guess that means most people won't want to go with the U.S. goverment option--very scary. But, as Scootybug points out the private sector seems to be no nirvana either--at least, there will be an option of crappy healthcare here in the U.S.

If providing an option of crappy healthcare were the only result, that would be fine.

But the ObamaCare proposal is designed to overwhelm the public option and destroy it. Say goodbye to the healthcare you enjoy now, it is going away.

Do we want unevenly distributed happiness, or evenly distributed misery?

1) I thought that with the proposed plan if you HAVE private insurance, you can keep it - you aren't forced to go on the public plan.

The public option is for people who DON'T have or can't get private insurance (about 35% of non-elderly Americans or 44 million).

2) People act like government health care is Armageddon - but aren't we all already getting it when we hit 65. :dunno:

If #1 was all it was, no big deal.

But the (un)intended consequences of this plan are far more reaching.

Imagine your business. Imagine the federal government, with it's resources, coming in to finance your competitor. They will borrow cheaper, they will buy cheaper, they will employ cheaper, they will sell cheaper, they will crowd you out.

Imagine your employer. Hey! Why should I provide this nice plan to my employees when I can pay a small fine and put them on the government plan. Saves me money. Say goodbye to your private plan.

Neither myself nor my employer have a problem w/ that scenario - we're both frustrated by the amount being spent on health insurance.

And I am not about to cry crocodile tears that the industry screwing over patients and doctors to make a profit might get some price competition.
