Washington County Tea Party Faces Early Opposition

The Tea Party movement has been very vocal in its opposition of the Healthcare Reform Bill.
Some people in Washington County are trying to organize their own chapter, but are running into some opposition of their own.
But the group is refusing to let it stop them from pursuing its goal.
St. Theresa's Catholic Church was supposed to be the location for Washington County's first Tea Party meeting on March 18th.
But it never happened.
"It was pretty shocking to me to get a call from the Monseigneur that we had to cancel the meeting."
Diane Vitale claims someone called the Church Diocese in Pensacola, saying the group was using the church to host a political movement.
"They were threatening to destroy the status of tax exemption for the church."
Vitale and her friend, Karen Schoen, say the Tea Party is not politically motivated.
Both are members of Bay County's group and believe Washington County needs its own Tea Party.
"We were pleasantly surprised to find out that people in the county were very interested in the way their county was being run and the lack of information that was being disseminated from meetings," says Schoen.
Both Vitale and Schoen allege the county is misappropriating funds and failing to promote the possible economic development opportunities of the new Bay County Airport.
"So if we have limited means, they should be spent on things that will benefit the entire county, not just a few, not just for the whim of a few."
County officials would not comment on the subject pending a lawsuit over misappropriated funds.
Nor could we find anyone who is opposed to the Tea Party group meeting at the church.
"These people are not going to stop us from having a Tea Party that the community wants."

So apparently they aren't politically motivated, but only discuss politics and politicians. Just a local sampling.

It is the lowest base of the current Republican Party. It is anti-education, anti Healthcare, a majority hold racist opinions, a majority don't believe Obama was born in the U.S., a majority believe that Obama is of the Muslim faith, most can name the top five Nascar drivers, and a recent poll state 26% of this very" fun" group think Obama is the anti-Christ.

Whew...They are not the types of people I'd invite to my Spring Soiree!

Tea Party Poll

http://www.quinnipiac.edu/x1295.xml?ReleaseID=1436

Only 13 percent of American voters say they are part of the Tea Party movement, a group that has more women than men; is mainly white and Republican and voted for John McCain, and strongly supports Sarah Palin, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today.

Why Women Say they Joined the Tea Party

Women Reveal Their Reasons for Tea Partying - AOL News
What they discovered, as the 10 following microprofiles reveal, is that the anger, desire for empowerment, antipathy toward government and obsession with the Constitution that are fueling the tea party all cross gender lines.

President Obama and what he represents has jolted extremists into the present and forced them to confront the future. And it scares them.

Even the optics must be irritating. A woman (Nancy Pelosi) pushed the health care bill through the House. The bill’s most visible and vocal proponents included a gay man (Barney Frank) and a Jew (Anthony Weiner). And the black man in the White House signed the bill into law. It’s enough to make a good old boy go crazy.

IMO much of the fear that is being tapped into by the right wing comes from how quickly the world has gotten smaller via the Internet. We are now truly a global society, but many in this country and other countries, would prefer that not to be.
For lots of people, change is frightening...even if it's good for them.

There are only two words for the above. Inappropriate and wrong. Oh, I'll probably be at the Spring Soiree. I can't wait to meet you.

Tea Party Advocates Who Scorn Socialism Want a Government Job - Bloomberg.com

Pretty good statistics actually - well educated, successful, a majority are women, and politically independent. Liberals seem to want to paint this group as something it's not, why is that?

Most of those seemed pretty tame.

For some reason Hitler is a popular caricature to use when insulting political leaders -

bush as hitler - Google Search

obama as hitler - Google Search

personally I wish people wouldn't do this, I find it rather offensive. Regardless of how you feel about Bush or Obama or any other political figure in our country, painting them as the most horrific historical figure of the modern age isn't appropriate.
