I was wondering if there was much interest in the SoWal area for a disc golf course. There are several in Santa Rosa and Escambia, but none in this area (Okaloosa, Walton, Bay), and it seems like a pretty laid back and inexpensive sport. The courses don't take up much land and they don't require much impact to create, and maintenance is pretty easy.

If you don't know what it is, here are the Wiki and Disc Golf Association pages:

So, do you think it would be a good fit in SoWal, if a course were to be put in somewhere?

There is a course at Ferry Park just north of downtown Ft. Walton Beach, and I think there was also talk about putting a course in at the Mullet Festival grounds as well.

I'd love to have a course around here. I think we are stuck with "college rules courses". The mailbox is the first hole, stop sign hole two, the third light pole from the intersection is three.....

Just make sure the course is big enough to allow me to drive my golf cart (frisbee cart?) between throws.
:funn::funn::funn:

I hope you're onto something. I'd try this sport.

Cool, I didn't know about the FWB course.

I just think it looks like something that would be fairly easy to learn but that would still be fun (and cheap) for people to play....as long as you dont need the off road golf carts haha

I am interested in it, but I checked it out a couple months ago, and it requires about an acre for a full course, and land in south walton can be pretty expensive. It doesn't cost much to actually play, but the set up cost for the course can get expensive.

Edit: Ok, I was way off on the acreage. Here is a link to a website.

Disc Golf at a state park

It would be great to have a course at Eden, Camp Helen or Topsail. The parks have the room, and a course would definitely increase enjoyment of one of the parks.

Like any sport, it can actually cost money if a person is good and gets the different disks (putters, drivers, etc), the cool bag, water bottle, towel, new shoes because you drag your toe on the tee :love: Lucky for me, I suck at it but love it so it doesn't cost me much. I get the same results with a putting disk as with a driver.

Birmingham has a huge course that is built around the baseball fields, playground and park so it is land that is already in use, they just hung the baskets out. There is a nice one in Sarasota too that is on a narrow strip of land but it works well.
It could fit well in the park in Freeport or in PCB. Eden might be a stretch because there is not a lot tree-free land and you need some open space. I'm sure no one would mind us playing through while a nice couple was exchanging vows.

I would be very interested in getting some folks together and play some of our own "college rule courses" around Sowal, similar to the weekly Sunday Kickball games @ Gulf Place. I was thinking up around the high school/annex for some decent open course configurations.
