How you can consider adoption/suppression of new technologies to be anything but a step forward/backward is beyond me.

I don't think Andy is suppressing anything, he's just being a realist. Are you putting your money on the table to do your part? Do you have solar panels on your house? Do ride your bike to work? Maybe you should stop lecturing everyone and get busy adopting new technologoes to help move us forward.
Very simply I'm driving my car a lot less than I was a couple of years ago and staying home a lot more often. This is not because I can't afford to drive the way I used to. It is with the deliberate intent of putting the screws to the oil industry. Further more my average mpg has gone from 20 to 30 in that time period. Solar panels aren't far off, but neither are solar power providers. The Gulf oil volcano has opened a few eyes. Feast yours on this:
Andy, this is the second post recently where you have claimed that if I have my way it will somehow screw up your way of life. I realize you conservatives need constant fear and someone to blame in order to survive, be it the wrath of god or liberals and conservatives trying to protect mother earth. If I am in some way helping to fullfill that need then I'm happy to oblige.
If you have some secret information on earths oil reserves being infinite or the oil companies have a maximum number of barrels they will extract before shutting down operations please share it with the rest us.
I had solar panels intalled on my home in the late 70's. They were expense to purchase and maintain. After 20yrs. I had them removed and installed a well insulated gas heater and didn't notice any increase in my energy bill.
Do you ever remember anything you read? And please spare telling me you don't read what is posted by me. I have said on many occasions that we need new technologies to be developed and put in place. I have also said it will not happen over night and we must have a bridge to reach them. Regardless of how you may couch it, that bridge is fossil fuels.

All those that want to do away with this evil crude oil, I ask you to pick any 10 items on this list and stop using them now. I don't think any of these were created from wind or solar.
