I am so disappointed and frustrated right now!:bang: Two days before we were suppose to close, there were issues with the Home owners Association. Part of the docs have to be changed, and we are now waiting for all of that to get taken care of. Meanwhile, my husband tells me that he spoke with someone who says there are issues with the HOA and now I don't know if we will be purchasing a place there or not.:dunno: Can anyone give me any suggestions on anything in the SoWal area in the 100,000 to 200,000 price range that they could recommend? We would like something with at least 2 bedrooms and HOA fees no more than $450 (unless it includes all utilities, then we are willing to pay more.) I guess losing about $1500 isn't much considering what we could lose in the future. Thanks for any suggestions you could give me . You can personally message me if you want.

I heard that the bungalows at Seagrove were falling in that price range this past summer and summer before. We stayed there and liked it but I have no idea about their HOA-HOA's are indeed a pain. I hope things work out for you and that your dream comes true!!

Thanks Aggie! I will check out the bungalows at Seagrove. I can't really express how I feel to anyone here at home because, seriously, who wants to hear someone complain that their dreams of buying a place near the beach didn't work out when there are people out there without jobs and cannot pay their bills? I do feel blessed and I don't mean to complain. Oh well, if this doesn't work out, it happened for a reason. Maybe we will find another place to call our second home! I am not giving up yet!!!

Good luck with your search.

I am not a big fan of HOAs because of all the nonsense and fees, so you might want to consider somewhere with no HOA, but good neighborhood covenants and restrictions.

That's what HOA's are supposed to enforce. If you have covenants and restrictions that aren't on the deed or through land use/planning then you have an HOA.

That may be their original purpose, but I find they tend to mostly be overly interested in minding other people's business and squabbling.

I prefer to have basic rules for the neighborhood and maybe have to plant shrubs or a tree to hide a neighbor's house rather than have others telling me what I can and cannot do all the time. ;-)

I sent you a message. I just had someone else message me, and I think I need to call my realtor. (If that does any good). The info she gave me was the same info that a realtor gave my husband today.......something has been or is definitely going on.

...hold on to that thought.

Nowadaze it's VERY VERY important that buyers check out HOAs to the extent that they would check out the electrical and plumbing in the property they're going to buy. There's too many folks who've treated their HOA fees like they were "optional" and too many HOAs who are not properly funded to maintain the facilities.

Before considering buying a condo/subdivision (and certainly before falling in love with the place) have your Realtor produce several months of HOA minutes and financial statements--if you get any objections from either party...walk away and go to the next place/Realtor.
