Viewer CAUTION: I think that this thread is not really very funny at all. I would hope that it would be taken down by Sowal. Decorating animals in amusing costumes just for "laughs" is a first step into the realm of animal abuse--i.e., gateway behavior, to use an analogy to drug addiction.

What kind of example does this set for small children?? When we begin to feel a bit more empathy for all living creatures, then Sowal and the world will be a better place for all.

Step away from the meds. You need to take a few steps back from you post and realize the folks that take time and money to dress up a pet are on the opposite end of the spectrum from abusers. I have several costumes for my babies and yes we will laugh at them. How horrible.

That is my personal opinion as a dog owner and animal rights advocate-- and, I might add, the opinion of many others.

Tell me, does the dog in those horrible pictures on this thread look at all natural and comfortable to you?

At least, Red Dog, you are now possibly seriously contemplating your behavior in regard to your "pets".

I have no problem with this at all. Even Alaqua Animal Refuge benefits from the proceeds of a Mardi Gras dog parade. http://www.sandestin.com/portals/0/includes/pdfs/2012MardiPawsReg.pdf
IMO, even if the costume is ridiculous, I don't think the dog suffers in any way as long as he's comfortable and isn'tisn't struggling. I suppose you could always give the costume a tight fit and say that it's a designer thundershirt.

What kind of example does this set for small children?? I'm just thinking of all of the ridiculous costumes I see kids in on Halloween...not to mention what the adults dress in themselves. I remember the poor guy dressed as a Wild Thing at the halloween party this year. Poor guy, couldn't see where he was going, couldn't drink, and he said the music vibrated horribly inside the beast head. Yet, he made it through just fine. I think the pups will survive the humiliation and I don't think anyone is standing there with a cattle prod forcing them to stand still!

Than Alaqua ought to rethink its involvement in that-- I will contact them directly--thanks L.S.!
