From an article in the NWF Daily News dated Jan 1, 2015...

Couples can still tie the knot at the Walton County Courthouse, and will be able to for the foreseeable future, said Alex Alford.

“Until we run into something that says no,” he said.

So Mr. Alford, what did you run into in less than a week? Did homophobia smack you into yesterdays front page news?

"Walton County steps Away from all courthouse weddings"

Alford said he’d made the decision to do away with courthouse weddings late Friday. “We feel it’s in the best interest of the Clerk’s Office not to perform them,” he said.

So Mr. Alford, you think it's in the Counties best interest not to perform their job according to State Law?

WOW...just WOW!

Following the lead of the clerks of court in Okaloosa and Santa Rosa counties, Alford announced Monday that he and his deputy clerks would no longer be presiding over courthouse weddings of any kind.

Had you really wanted to be a leader Mr. Alford you would have stayed the course you set Jan. 1, 2015

Many people have moaned, *****ed and complained about the lawsuits Ms. Harris has filed against the county and yet, here you have a prime example of why the County gets itself sued.

I'm sure he heard from about 3 judges as well.

Is it a requirement for the the Clerk of Courts to perform marriages or just a requirement that they issue a marriage license? According to what I read a judge, notary, minister and the like can perform these marriages but I can't find where it says the Clerk of Court has to.

Not a free service. There was a $30.00 fee in addition to the $93.50 for the marriage license.

Several Florida County Clerks have decided to end performing marriage ceremonies at the courthouse, though they will still issue licenses. Clerks in Duval, Clay, Baker, Santa Rosa and Okaloosa counties have announced they are ending courthouse ceremonies. Walton Clerk of Courts Alex Alford is quoted in the Daily News as saying his office will still perform the ceremonies. A judge made a decision concerning the Clerk of Courts in Washington County.

The court’s August ruling said the Florida marriage ban is unconstitutional was the result of two cases; one brought by the American Civil Liberties Union ACLU of Florida on behalf of eight couples, a Fort Myers widow, and SAVE, South Florida’s largest LGBT rights organization; the other by Jacksonville attorneys William Sheppard and Sam Jacobson on behalf of two couples.

The Washington County Clerk of Court, named as a defendant in the case brought by Sheppard and Jacobson, filed a motion for clarification asking Judge Hinkle to clarify the scope of the injunction. Some felt the motion only applied to Washington County. Many Florida clerks have been waiting for the judges clarification.

New Year’s day, U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle issued an order clarifying that all Florida clerks should begin issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples when the stay expires at the end of the day on January 5. Judge Hinkle explained that while his injunction applies only to the named defendants, because his August 21 ruling held that the marriage ban is unconstitutional, the Constitution requires clerks to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.

Some of the CLerks cited the same sex ruling as well as other issues such as budget decisions.

Walton is homophobic.

There is a very strong and professional "gay" community in the south end.

Alford must go to the Baptist Church in DFS.
