Living in the past means you do not want to deal with the present or you fear what is coming in the future. Either way a party (fish fry, boat parade etc) about hope should help. Why not?

On the last day of my last high school class (almost a half century ago) my physics teacher wrote his final lesson on the blackboard: Why not? It took me a while to figure it out but it was a challenge... to live in the present. If we humans have purpose it is to be better today than we were yesterday. Living in the past is a history lesson of the imperfections of our species. So the challenge is change (to be better). All I can say about slavery is that it happened (not just in the South) and was cruel and wrong in every era of human history including the American North, East and West. Slavery existed from as far back as we have recorded history but in it's blatant form it no longer exists in the present. Yeah, we humans have improved slightly :) My challenge is to weigh the importance of respecting the fallen confederate soldier with the importance of respecting the sensitivities of African Americans. Your challenge is to simply stop living in the past, stop judging people and learn how to make friends not enemies. If we stop disrespecting each other because our opinions are different are we really trying to be better? I did not say change was easy for either one of us but I do know that we ALL have to change. Even Q seemed to change for the better :)

On the subject of Brian Kolfage who broke the law he will be punished by law as it should be. On the subject of the symbolism and the politics of the wall that Trump and Trump supporters want between the US and Mexico there are no written laws. But I will agree there is a familiar ring of an abuse of power in the purpose of the Confederate monuments and the Trump Wall. An abuse of power only comes from those in power. If you have no power there is no abuse of power. The problem is in the symbolism which happens to be morally, culturally and spiritually very complex. Morality is not absolute and open for debate. Culturally is rooted in a functional society. Spiritually is rooted in an emotion that has purpose. My point is that what seems right and wrong to you might be the opposite to other people. If your point is that you are right and every one that does not agree with you is wrong then you are living in the past and missing an opportunity to participate in the present. Our Constitution and Bill of Rights give we the people an opportunity to be united in order to hold those accountable who abuse the power we give them. Since there are no laws for an abuse of power it is the only way this country can change for the better. When you distance yourself from we the people (democrats, republicans, independents and those that have become apathetic) and become too self important you are setting up the future to be no different than our past. I believe that we can all change for the better but for a better democracy we need each other to be united against those who abuse power. We need friends not enemies. Neither political party is a best friend but I agree that the republicans are less of a friend than democrats for this election. You do not have to reach out and connect with people and you can keep living in the past but there is a better way. Why not?

Sometimes it takes a lot of words to express a thought. I know it is difficult to read a lot of words but a story that is trying to promote friendship is better than a few words that is trying to promote conflict. This forum is for both I think...

Not sure what to make of trump’s brown people invasion at the border crisis becoming the suburban brown people moving in next door crisis . Are these the same ones from the border or are brown American citizens now the new threat to the right wing nutjobs?

I think Trump has found many friends in the extreme right who fear a growing Hispanic presence in the US. The facts will support that fear. The democrats need to try and alleviate that fear or symbolism of the Trump wall will grow. The wall is all symbolism! The reality is illegal immigrants from South of the border have taken jobs and require care that our taxes pay for just in case you believe the fear is not real. Most of the jobs they take are jobs that Americans do not want but there is a growing number of Hispanic owned businesses that have circumvented immigration laws. In other words they are now fully competing with American owned businesses who pay taxes. They are generally very small but the point is they exist and are growing. Complex subject and we need to find answers but in a country that seems to be manipulated by symbolic things we are completely stuck in terms of progressive laws. If you do not clean up your wording of the right wing people they will continue to not disappoint you and will also grow in number! We both hope Biden wins and will knock down that Wall but it will not fix the reality of the problem. We need bi-partisan legislative representation on this and many problems. Do you think you are helping with calling people nutjobs?

I disagree with your verbiage on people taking jobs. Jobs are given not taken. The solution is to round up the employers and toss them in paddy wagons.
Nutjobs? I call it like it is.

Yes we are giving them jobs. Taking jobs is incorrect. Why are we giving them jobs over Americans? One answer is that Americans don't want some of those jobs and don't even apply for those jobs. Your solution to round up employers misses on the reality of the problem which is complex. American's don't want to work low paying jobs. I don't blame them but we have spent trillions of dollars educating them for what jobs? Have you seen the long descriptions of college majors lately. If not you should take a look. Anyway if you round up businesses for hiring illegal immigrants you might want to also round up those people who pay cash for planting a tree or mowing their grass or painting their house etc. I don't even like to use the word illegal immigrants because you are right if we are hiring them aren't we all doing something illegal? What complicates this mess is that we have a shrinking tax base in this sector as legitimate small business can no longer compete and go out of business. Small business have always been the back bone of the American economy. Every penny that a legitimate small business makes stays in the American economy. So go ahead and solve the problem by rounding up every one (employers and individuals) who pays for a service from an illegal immigrant not paying taxes, requiring healthcare from tax payers and then give them a free American education. You will need bigger prisons to hold all those people in your paddy wagons but wait who will pay for the prisons? Certainly not those immigrants we are giving jobs, not requiring them to pay taxes, giving them healthcare and educating their children. Who are the nutjobs again? Feel free to call it like it is!

Someone is missing from this list of R.I.S.E. homes built by the Gary Sinese Foundation.

Serious question. If convicted for what he is accused of, does he do time?
Zero law expertise, but the article claims he could receive up to twenty years. This is his second Florida indictment and he was also indicted by a federal grand jury in NY last August along with Bannon who was pardoned by former guy.
