Walton County – 10/15/25 – District 2 Commissioner Danny Glidewell recommended that the Walton County Board of County Commissioners
designate a local street as ‘Charlie Kirk Parkway.’

“Recently, we lost a wonderful American, Mr. Charlie Kirk, who had a great influence on a lot of people. His murder was a shock to all of us, and I was asked to present this – to create a ‘Charlie Kirk Parkway’ in Walton County,” said Commissioner Glidewell.

Glidewell said that after researching the issue, he felt that whatever highway was chosen, it should not adversely affect residents with regard to street addressing.

“I have identified a road that we could name after Mr. Kirk without impacting people’s addresses,” said Glidewell. “That’s Highway 393 North. So, I would make a motion that we designate Highway 393 North as ‘Charlie Kirk Parkway’ and leaving the addressing as 393.”

Commission Chair Donna Johns also reminded everyone that this was occurring on what would have been Charlie Kirk’s birthday. She thanked Commissioner Glidewell for bringing up the recommendation.

An audience member also came to the podium to thank the Commissioners for taking this action and noted that Kirk had also just received the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously that same day. The motion passed unanimously.

What a tremendous waste of time energy and effort by the very commissioners who couldn’t even win a simple code enforcement case. Now we get to see that hideous politically and negatively charged monster house by an out of state owner and the locals are forced to pay the attorneys fees of the code enforcement violator. The WC commissioners need to find a decent lawyer who can win cases for the GOOD of WC. Not change WC roadways to names of cultish religious white supremicists masquerading as a hero. We all know the deal here and it’s a travesty.

Walco is MAGA Supreme. As I recall Huckabee won the presidential primary in Walton County. Then moved here and led the charge to make beaches private. Hoo boy Walton loves con men and developers.

I propose naming Hwy 393 South “Sandy Hook Parkway” in memory of the 20 children and six adults who were killed at school. That was one of the most tragic days in this country’s history.

MrSunshine I saw your thumbs down about naming 393 south in memory of the lives lost at Sandy Hook. Why? As long as we’re renaming streets in memory of those tragically lost, why not the children at Sandy Hook? I never heard of Charlie Kirk before he was killed. I sympathize that he was a father who left young children so early in their lives. But why not name a street in memory of so many young children shot while at school? Are you that cold hearted?

I agree apples and oranges. Charlie Kirk has 2 small children who will grow up not knowing their father. Most people I’ve talked to, regardless of political affiliation, never heard of him before he was shot. The parents of the 20 children at Sandy Hook will never know what their 6/7 year old children would’ve grown up to be. We didn’t know about those children before they were viciously slaughtered, however, it was such a tragedy. Why can’t we memorialize both? Or not? Just keep national politics out of it when naming local roads. As other posters have said this is really a waste of time for the BCC to address, keep national politics out of it, focus on local issues.

BTW, I live off of 393S, about a mile of the Gulf of Mexico!
